On my last few QF flights I was served smoked almonds to complement the Champagne.

If we want bus fares we will get bus services.

Agree ... but QF don't exactly charge bus fares. Current red e-deal to MEL-HBA $140 (JQ $69) ... are QF's cost twice those of QF??

True, QF don't charge bus fares.

Greyhound are currently charging $73 SYD-MEL for a 12 hour trip - QF are charging around $120 for a 1.5 hour trip.

Doesn't sound like bus fares to me.

Just when I thought there'd be a surplus of peanuts now the Rockvegas QP has been closed for reno!

I recall both QF and QLink still throw nuts at you when you're served a libation, so this Geoff-o-gram directive maybe hasn't made it to the Deep North.

Peanuts were still on offer at QP last Friday evening

I hope they leave them there because I don't normally eat them but wouldn't mind occasional ones.

AA in first class don't serve peanuts at all. You get a small bowl of about 30 or so assorted nuts, warmed; mainly cashews.

I've just found confirmation of the change. It does affect both inflight food service and what's offered in the QP's.

Australian Medical Association Welcomes Qantas Peanut Policy

AMA (Australian Medical Association) President, Dr Mukesh Haikerwal, today applauded QANTAS on its decision to adopt a peanut policy to alert its passengers to the dangers that peanuts may present to allergy sufferers.

Dr Haikerwal, who called on QANTAS to match the British Airways policy when he launched Food Allergy Awareness Week earlier this year, is urging all airlines and other businesses that offer refreshments to their customers to display similar policies and warnings.

<...snip...>

QANTAS PEANUT POLICY

Qantas is aware of the challenges of peanut allergy sufferers and where possible seeks to minimise the risks of exposure to peanuts through the following actions:

-- The removal of peanuts as a bar snack on all Qantas flights and from Qantas owned and operated lounges;

-- Minimising the use of peanuts or peanut based products in its Inflight menus; and

-- The provision of an extensive range of special meals inflight which are specifically designed not to include peanuts or other nuts and products of peanuts or other nuts in the preparation of the meal.

Whilst all reasonable steps are taken by Qantas and its caterers to reduce the exposure to peanuts inflight and on the ground Qantas cannot guarantee an allergy free environment on board its aircraft or in its lounges. It is always possible that other passengers may bring peanuts or other nuts on board or into the lounges with them. Passengers may also be served a range of other nuts including almonds, cashews and macadamia nuts as bar snacks or after dinner snacks. For this reason, we recommend that passengers carry any medication they may need with them in the cabin of the aircraft and be ready to administer the medication if necessary.

That would be stupid to take it out of the QP its your choice to get the nuts from the bar and if someone has a reation, there is nothing to divert and an ambulance would be there in a few mins anyway

I do know someone who didn't know he was allergic to peanuts until he had a severe (is there a doctor on board) reaction to them halfway between Sydney and Toronto. Not to ideal place to find that out....

I don't like the QP peanuts. They're too greasy.

QF DO have Cashews...

Cashew nuts would be preferable to peanuts for me.
Me too, but we both know that isn't going to happen. :(
Actually, Qantas do have Cashews on their flights. Last night on a Domestic sector of an international flight I was given two small packs labelled Roasted almonds & cashews. (I think they normally use these for premium cabin clients.)

Inside which, were almonds & cashews (strangely enough :p ) in roughly equal proportion.

I kept the wrapper and on the back is:
INGREDIENTS: Australian Almonds, Cashews, Coconut Oil & Sea Salt. ... Net Weight 20g ...
Here's the fine print:
This product is packed on a production line that also produces products that contain Brazils, Walnuts, Macadamias, Hazelnuts, Wheaten Flour, Soya Beans and thier products, Peanuts and their products and Dried Fruits that may contain Sulphites.

There were peanuts still at the Perth QP yesterday. Maybe they are just finishing off their supplies. And I agree with Damien, that they are greasy.

I do hope that they replace the peanuts with something other than the pretzel combo. One of my deformities is that I can't have wheat/gluten, so the nuts were something...guessing sushi isn't on the budget this year :(

I love pretzels, especially with alcohol. Don't like the rice crackers though.

Hey thats a good idea now! Just imagine bringing on a hot pack of butter chicken or something similar with a nice aroma that wafts through the whole cabin. Ha ha, you NOT want to be sitting near me :) I wonder if they allow you to do this.... a subtle hint that the QF food doesn't cut it too. Don't like pretzels at all, if the peanuts are such a risk will they ban me from bringing my own?

It's OK, I'll beat your 'smell temptation' by bringing my own Peking Duck. ;)

Of course they let you bring your own food, although I haven't tried bringing hot food on board  .

Also, there is something about people might be bringing their own peanuts on board so Qantas can't guarantee the peanut-free environment in one of the posts with quoted article, so I suspect you will indeed be able to do a BYO peanuts.
