Hi all!

I've been trying to play around with different routes and combinations with different airlines and it is doing my head in (that's normal for booking flights these days right!)!?!?

Does anybody have any suggested routes I could take early July this year for PER-CUN for 10 days, then CUN-LA for 10 days then back home LA-PER??

I'm looking at both cash options and using either Alaska points (during the current promotion) or purchased miles from other airlines.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Aaron!

Which class of travel and what is your budget? (for either buying points or buying revenue tickets?)

Doh! Totally forgot to add that!

Business class preferable, premium economy is ok... would like to avoid flying Y, would be bearable for short hops of a couple of hours...

Would like to keep costs to under 8k for two of us if possible.

Can tell you without even checking that QF J award seats will be unavailable, regardless of the program you have the points in. Therefore either consider points on another airline/alliance or buying rev seats.

Buying rev seats on QF/AA in J will be well over 8k for 2 PER-LAX-(xx_?)-CUN so that's out. You may be able to get 2 x Y+ seats for that price, I don't know.

On other carriers, theres:

VA PER-SYD-LAX-CUN on VA/DL combo. Can't buy the points and I'm guessing J rev will be over budget, Y+ rev may be under budget.

Can buy points through UA/US/AV FF programs for use on *A carriers. UA or AV would require you to start at MEL or SYD and go SFO-CUN on UA (it's too complicated an itinerary to think it up online). US (if you have the points) may be able to piece you together an itinerary PER-BKK-(ICN/TPE/NRT)-SFO-CUN.

Through AS I *think* UA is a partner? If so, the UA or AV rules above would probably apply.

I would consider buying AS miles for CX J, if its available, I guess you could book it as two separate awards PER-HKG and then HKG-LAX/SFO/JFK then make your own way to CUN (i.e. fly into whatever is closer). You could easily open jaw this to fly into JFK and out of LAX, assuming there is availability. I'm unsure of the miles and price needed (I believe its 2 separate awards?) but will probably be under budget. CX is probably the worlds best business class right now and you are QF WP. A HKG stopover would also be allowed.

YMMV as there may be no availability but I would investigate using AS to book CX J.

Hi Aaron, perhaps consider this option.

July 3
PER-KUL Air Asia Premium Seat
Depart Perth 6.50am Arrive KUL 12.30pm
*****Change terminals from LCC to KLIA******
KUL-HKG-LAX Cathay Pacific Premium Economy
Depart KUL 5.40pm Arrive HKG 9.35pm Depart HKG 11.45pm Arrive LAX 10.10pm

July 4
LAX-CUN United Airlines Economy
Depart LAX 11.49pm Arrive CUN 6.36am
July 14
CUN-LAX United Airlines Economy
Depart CUN 6.12pm Arrive LAX 9.28pm

July 24
LAX-HKG-KUL Cathay Pacific Premium Economy
Depart LAX 1.05pm Arrive HKG 6.55pm. Depart HKG 8.20pm Arrive KUL 12.05am (Jul 26)

July 26
KUL-PER Air Asia Premium Seat
Depart KUL 8.50am Arrive PER 2.20pm

Price: $2722 + $781 + $1254 = $4757
NB You can reduce the price by $250 by taking a 1-stop flight between LAX-CUN-LAX (subtract $250)
You could also reduce the flight by $500 by flying the daytime (5 hour flight time) PER-KUL in Air Asia economy if you wanted to keep it to $4000pp.

PM me if you'd like instructions on booking the flights. There are some gotchas you should be careful about.
