Perth accommodation

I heard an advertisement on the radio on my way home on Friday for the Pan Pacific at a couple of hundred a night. Don't have any personal experience with the hotel or the chain, but it used to be the Perth Sheraton so probably isn't too shabby.

Sorry, don't know any details at all (might be a specific w/e special for all I know) - possibly worth a look.
I stayed at the Pan Pacific for two nights this weekend gone.
it's OK. I was in a standard room, which was fine. Nice view of the Swan River.
Bathroom was awful though. Had to turn the shower taps about 10 times just to get the water running.
Climate control was not adequate. It was a warm winter's weekend in Perth (24 degrees during the day, but single figures at night) but even setting the climate control to the coldest temp barely made the room comfortable. I had to request a fan.
The staff are fantastic. The best staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. Except for the housekeeper who decided that it was OK to walk in on me while in the shower and copped the full brunt of yours truly startled and in the nude! Poor thing. I wouldn't subject that to anyone!
Room service menu was hideously expensive, but there are a few menu items that are affordable. Eggs benedict with ham and tomato and 2 hash browns for $18 was reasonable (plus $5 'tray' charge).
You certainly don't get what you pay for in Perth anywhere, but this is a reasonable option. I'd stay here again, although I'd hope the climate control was set a little better if it was summer. I suspect it would be. The staff are fantastic.
The Grosvenor pub one block down is a better place for a beer and a meal than the Irish pub below the Novotel across the road.

Unfortunately rooms in the hotels of Perth don't look like coming down anytime soon. Stayed at the Novotel, Hyatt and Quest Service Apartments in Fremantle over last 12 months. Highly recommend the Hyatt and Novotel, Quest beds were as hard as a rock and the prices for all, definitely not inviting.

If the iron ore price does not recover within 3 months Perth will have more rooms available as mines start laying off contractors. It has changed so quickly many companies must be shocked.

Just like last time and the time before that......

Aaah! We are staying in Perth w/e of the 15th and have booked at the Quest in Fremantle mainly because of the location - should we reconsider because of the beds?

thx, Sale

Weekend rates are reasonable, but this is probably not what you want. I doubt there are any cheap, decent, hotel rooms left midweek without booking well in advance

Yes this has been my experience Fri, Sat and Sun nights the prices at many places are half what they are mid week

And how prophetic were those comments!

How's the mood of the town? Many 457's on their way home.

Four weeks in Perth would be the equivalent of at least a year in Tassie I think.
