Beginner/Newbie trying to figure out the best options/price to get return from Perth to Dubai using Velocity points. Did a search but cant seem to find anything relevant. Any help appreciated.

You would be best going on Etihad to Abu Dhabi and then using their coach transfer to Dubai, which is free and advised to pre-book https://www.etihad.com/en-us/plan-and-book/book-etihad-express/

Call Guest Customer Service as they have better availability than the website.
An alternative would be to ask them about going on Emirates which is the only direct flight, but you will get a very poor deal with Emirates.

When are you thinking of going and in which class - how many points do you have? Is it just for 1 pax?

Thinking mid year sometime July maybe. I have 175K points and dont mind economy. Just me one person

There is plenty of reward seats from Virgin from Perth to AUH in july, I have been looking a that myself.
About 40,000 points from memory. . Double that for businees.
