Hi
Looking to book to seperate flight from Perth to Tokyo via Singapore.

Perth to Singapore QF71: 12:25pm-17:45pm
Singapore to Tokyo JL36: 22:25pm - 05:55am

Based on the above i should have enough transit time even though i need to pass through immigration and recheck in.

Anyone has experienced this? Or what are your thoughts of this itinerary. I am considering this or book a day earlier to be safe.
Ps: there will be 4 of us including 2 small children

Thank you

I’d chance it and book it. No harm in asking at check in for bags to be checked through…are they both revenue flights?

I’d also try the airside transfer desk in changi, I’ve had them retag bags for me before that were not checked through on separate tickets, saved me a lot of hassle.

I have booked Jal using points. Looking to buy Per Sin with cash as no reward seats available. I read to use transfer desk you will need to have both tickets under one itinerary?

Qantas policy is to through check separate PNRs where one is revenue and the other is points and the second carrier is oneworld.

Exemptions apply for customers travelling on a oneworld separate PNRs when using a combination of award travel and revenue travel. Note: This is a Qantas exemption and may not be supported by all oneworld airlines.

So the outbound trip should be fine, I am not sure of JL's policy for the return.

I've flown Qantas to Singapore, connecting to Singapore Airlines on a seperate ticket. Transfer desk retagged my bag for me so I didn't have to go through immigration and collect my bag.

Irrespective of whether QF will check through
(They should but my one experience classic reward to revenue flight different booking was not allowed)

Changi operates transfer desks which will facilitate the retagging and transfer of baggage and issuing new boarding passes without needing to go through immigration

If I may ask - what if

a. 2 PNRs, both revenue - one is a QF domestic PNR (say, CBR-SYD) and the other is MH International (SYD-KUL-MAA) - Given that MH is also OW, will QF tag the bags thru to MAA?

b. 2 PNRs, QF domestic (CBR-SYD) is CR and MH International (SYD-KUL-MAA) is revenue - will QF tag bags thru to MAA?

No, definitely not - that's the reason the policy changed to prevent those kinds of combinations.

One has to be a points booking.

So, QF would check bags thru in the below scenario?

b. 2 PNRs, QF domestic (CBR-SYD) is CR and MH International (SYD-KUL-MAA) is revenue - will QF tag bags thru to MAA?

Reason I ask - last year, I tried to do QF CR PNR (CBR-SYD) and MH Revenue PNR (SYD-KUL-MAA) and the check-in agent at CBR said that they won't be able to check bags thru to MAA as the MH International leg is on a different PNR ...

Reason I ask
Mine was QF to AA (2 sectors, at least 4hr transit in LAX). One sector classic rewards and one sector revenue. Denied. Some would say bags need to be picked up at LAX, but as it didn't have the onward tag I was also directed to the AA checkin in the AA (T4 at that time)
QF consistently inconsistent.

The second example fits the policy for through check.

The agent might be unfamiliar with the policy.

That's promising considering qantas and sq are two different airline group. So if i am flying with Qantas and Jal, transfer desk should be able to retag the bag then without having to clear immigration? But i assume you wont have access to your checked baggage? Also the check-in for Jal won't be open by the time I arrive? Can they reissue the boarding pass?
