Nothing to do with the Bonds. Everything to do with it standing out on the skyline.

You obviously did not understand the planning process and people involved in that process if you think it had nothing to do with the bonds!

Liberal Ray O’Connor was found to have accepted a cheque for $25 000 from Bond corpration in the 1980′s to bribe councillors to approve the tower IIRC. Observation Rise was of course Eileens pet project.

I suspect there is also a lot of hangover resentment on what was planned for that whole area, had Peters by the sea not held out it would no doubt look a lot different today as Bond bought up most of the surrounding area.

I think he means it isn't disliked because of the Bonds themselves per se, but that was just my interpretation.

it is also perceived as a bit of a worse hotel i think. And the restaurants weren't rest when I tried them but that was ages ago.

Are you still heading to this hotel? I'm looking around Perth hotels atm, and would appreciate any further reviews of this hotel and the area.

Unless I find a better deal (unlikely) beforehand, we're there next week. I'll report back how the noise goes.

BTW, I'm not expecting much but a place to sleep and I'm an early riser (EST) anyway, so 7am (WST) is not likely to be an issue.

I well aware of the issues that resulted in the development. Todays issues in perth has nothing to do with who the devloper was. The issue is that the style of devolopment occurred. There is no residual alan bond did this...

Bondy has done his time in jail....

It's on the beach and in Sydney or Melb terms really close to the city as well. Good choice.

Ok, had the two nights at Rendezvous.

Given the rate I received was considerably cheaper than anything else I priced (except short stay apartments), I say this hotel is great value. Not as flash as a Hilton, but the rooms were a reasonable size and comfortably fitted out. We weren't bothered by the renos at all and we also found the location to be nice. All in all, we were happy with the choice. When the renos are finally complete, it will be very nice (but I bet the prices go up).

Having spent lots of time in Perth over the past 4 years I've 'tried out' a number of places, and tend to shop around as prices rise or when booking at short notice, due to lack of availability.

Recently stayed at the Fraser Suites in East Perth - about a 15 minute walk up Adelaide Terrace to the CBD.

Whilst the rack rates can be $400-$600, deals of about $199-$240 can be had occasionally on wotif.

The place only looks about 12-24 months old and is pristine.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to book it.

Yes, I agree. For past Perth trips, I've also found stayz to be worth a look (especially for family accommodation where hotels can be exorbitant.

(usual disclaimer....I have no pecuniary interest in stayz, but I have used them and can recommend them)

Enjoy a nice glass of wine on the balcony watching the weirdness of the sun setting into the Ocean!

Oh, that's one oddity about Rendezvous. They have no balcony furniture! I was looking forward to doing just that, but nowhere to sit! At least we did have a balcony though with a nice view over Scarborough Beach.

Looks like the reno's are complete, and the name changed to reflect it!

Rendezvous Perth

The group-wide rebranding initiative which was introduced by the Rendezvous Hospitality Group (RHG) at the end of 2011 is now complete, with Rendezvous Hotel Perth becoming the Rendezvous Grand Hotel Perth Scarborough on June 11, 2013.

I've stayed there two or three times, and on one of the occasions the wind whipped up an enormous gale such that I suspect any balcony furniture not nailed down may well have gone over the edge (the poolside furniture was certainly blowing about all over the place).

Those doctors can get very naughty!
