Hi, Going to Uk & EU in Nov for 3wks.
Looking for best sim card and wireless access?
Any tips?

Best tips that I have from experiece:

a) For phone - use Skype to make calls (see below) - though I also have a UK Orange sim for use while there - and also works out cheaper, of course, than using my AU phone to call home. Don't forget to divert your Aussie number to message bank - that way you don't pay for all those long-distance calls yourself when someone rings you.

b) for internet -often find I have use of system in places where I stay - but if you don't want to beusing your internet all day every day: try using the free WiFi spots, like MacDonalds. Many hotels charge exhorbitant rates - pity they haven't worked out (like their Aussie cousins) that a free service is what is expected of business class hotels, at least.

I am sure others have a lot of other suggestions to make - but these are good, cheap ones: depends, of course, on your useage and needs.

Thanks for the advice!!

So you buy an orange SIM in London?

I assume you cannot divert your Aussie no to the new no without charges?

Correct: Orange has a much better coverage in the UK than it does in Aus - could also get an O3 or the like - and also correct, at least from my tech source, divert your numbers: diverting Aus no. to UK. no means you still paying international roaming charges, or the like. I actually bought a cheap phone and put the SIM in that - that way have both phones and don't have to keep switching SIMS in order to retrieve MessageBank, etc.

Depends on your usage rates etc. Benefit of Orange phone is you then have a dedicated number in the UK for people to ring you on - whether from within UK or from home. And, when you do call home - Organge phone is not cheap to use, but it is cheaper than using your AUS phone.

As to Europe, just do the same if not going to multitude of countries. Will have to try that out for myself next month when off to Germany, France and UK.
