Arghhhhh... I was so looking forward to PE on the A380 for my return trip SIN - MEL on 15th July. Just received a notification that there has been a plane change and now we are on a 747. Does anyone know why the A380 has been replaced? Lets hope that the award upgrade to J comes through.

Likely Scheduled Maintenance as suggested.

It sure beats my In-laws coming back from the UK with BI (LHR-DXB-BWN-PER). Upon arriving in BWN, each passenger was put up in a hotel for 24 hours, as the Sultan or Brunei wanted to borrow the plane they were on.
Fortunately for them they were in J, so put up in a nice hotel, where as those in Y had to slum it out in a fairly average hotel.

2-3-2 Seating on the A380, Self Service Bar, PE has own toilets, Better IFE and you get to sit upstairs :)

Quite a few differences.

What about in terms of the actual seat? (Sorry for taking over the thread, it's just I'll be flying HKG-SYD Jan next year...)

Seats the exact same, except for the IFE screen. Only difference that I can recall.

yes annoying when that happens!!! however arriving safely is what it is all about...

Yeah, we had the same thing during the geat A380 debacle of Christmas 2010.

Couldn't get award PE seats on QF31 (A380) all the way from SYD-LHR, but chose to fly MEL-SIN on QF9 (747) and then swap to QF31 (A380) for SIN-LHR in PE.
Of course QF31 was then substituted for a 747.

What's worse - we were op-up'd from PE to J for MEL-SIN, and were told that we would have been in the same seats for SIN-LHR as well if we weren't swapping to QF31 :(

No Lower deck PE seats on Qantas 388's ...
Or upper deck PE seats on a 747!

Don't think spurcegoose took the time to read ausi ski bum comment in the over context of the discussion, which is about PE.

Feel yr pain. Happened to my partner and I last year MEL-LAX flew over on 747 and were booked to fly back on A380. While in US they were all grounded and came back on 747. Other than the PE upstairs I was keen to fly on A380 fr the first time. Booked on A380 LAX-NYC both ways again in August. Fingers crossed.

IMHO the J class on 747 didnt look so great, seats were angled lie flat and cabin not so special and crowded. Dont know if its worth the points upgrade from PE

380 doesn't fly to/ from JFK.Long haul upgrades are the best value IMHO. Mk2 sky beds are the best as they lie flat and there is more room.

You'll be disappointed, the LAX-JFK leg is operated by an A330. Relatively recently switched from a 747. The 330 has essentially the same hard product as the 747 (internationally at least) but no Y+ seating on the 330.

Best Y seating is 24G IMHO. J class all similar. OK for 6hr flight. That flight goes on to become QF25?

Although, if your booking was on QF9 all the way, they might just upgrade another PAX instead who's getting off in SIN.

Well today/tonight, I was scheduled on the JetStar A330 flight from MEL-BKK.
True to form the flight was delayed, then delayed again, then we boarded, delayed again.......and then the flight canceled.

Our plane was changed from an A330 to a big fat zero. I'd kill for a 747, so it's all about perspective.
