Plane change from A380 to 747

I've missed out on flying the 380 THREE times now....the first miss (equipment change) was ok as I didn't intentionally book it (SYD-SIN). The second and third times however I had specifically requested flights for the experience; second flight equipment change, third flight during last years groundings. I guess I am not meant to fly this thing!

Well today/tonight, I was scheduled on the JetStar A330 flight from MEL-BKK.
True to form the flight was delayed, then delayed again, then we boarded, delayed again.......and then the flight canceled.

Our plane was changed from an A330 to a big fat zero. I'd kill for a 747, so it's all about perspective.

This sounds very Tiger-like! So no replacement aircraft? Refund? Hotel? New booking?

Arghhhhh... I was so looking forward to PE on the A380 for my return trip SIN - MEL on 15th July. Just received a notification that there has been a plane change and now we are on a 747. Does anyone know why the A380 has been replaced? Lets hope that the award upgrade to J comes through.

Man i'd be so sad if that happened to me. Sorry to hear it happened to you. =( bad luck, hopefully karma exists and for a different flight you get op-uped.

Repair to a cargo door, flight rescheduled for 16 hours later. No biggy, just the risk of flying an airline with no inventory (or desire) to replace aircraft.

I'd suggest you book a flight on the Emirates flight out of SYD. With their enormous purchase of A380s, any maintenance would most likely be a like-for-like swap.

Sadly, Emirates doesn't fly SYD-SIN. And then, I doubt they (or anyone, for that matter) would keep a "spare" A380 at a non-hub location.

Yes one of the few advantages Mel has over Syd in the travel department!!

Fair enough... although I think I've invalidated every posts from #24... :shock:

Well, only if EK and/or EY can do a SIN-SYD route, be it non-stop or via BNE/MEL with the last leg on DJ/QF, all on the same PRN, I probably wouldn't be looking at making QF SG in a few months time.

Just out of interest, do the middle east airlines often make last minute type substitution to AU/NZ?

I too am familiar with this story, last year I was flying back London Singapore Melbourne during all those engine issues. Was rescheduled onto an earlier (additional) service on the 747 with the socceroo's livery. Lost my seat selection preferences but at least got home.

Several months earlier I flew back on the same route in an A380 in PE. One of the service trucks drove into the cargo door and it wouldn't shut - delayed 1 hour until they could hammer it closed.

They're a hard plane to catch!

I missed the A380 a few times before I finally got it. First time I missed was last November when the engine troubles ocurred. I was in London and was switched to a BA 777 (which is one of my favourite J seats anyway).

When you get the A380 for the first time, the excitement lasts about a minute and then you forget which plane you are on - its pretty similar to the 747 in the J cabin (AVOD and mini-cinema aside)

This happened to us yesterday for a November QF11 Syd LAX - bitterly disapointed, had booked the Y+ Award at t-353 days specifically to fly the A388.
I called the WP help desk and they arranged for us to go a day earlier on the A338 (and gives us bonus extra day stateside).
I was expecting to be told no, due to it being an Award flight and therefore tough luck on aircraft changes, so was very pleased.
Apparently it is their policy to allow changes to specifically catch the "Flagship" if you are flexible with dates and seats are available.
This may just be a WP perk though.

Of course late changes to aircraft may not have same results as 4 months out.

Just flew QF2, LHR-BKK-SYD, 747.

My my, they are really starting to show their age.

In the first 10 minutes, l had...

Headrest fall off
Plastic where arm rests, fall off (picture below)
AVOD freeze up and need re-booting
AVOD buttons worn so much, it was almost impossible navigate (I literally had to press the buttons very hard to get a cursor to move).

FA's were nice though, which did ease the pain.

I will now try to avoid the 747's and choose the A380's
