Hi everyone,

Has anyone had any experiences transferring from a standard Plat Charge to a reduced fee one with a professional association? I've been given the run around tonight saying that it's a system limitation and there's nothing they can do to transfer me over. All they said I can do is, "re-apply" which is think is a really poor customer experience.

In essence what they've recommended I do is that cancel my current card, re-apply for the same card as I hold. No promise of an expedited process nor did they suggest how they would manage my points in my account once the card was cancelled - do I need to chase them up or what's the go? I think it's pretty absurd to tell an existing customer to cancel their card and re-apply for the same card and take a ding to their credit report.

Following that conversation, they asked me to call the Plat team but they're currently unavailable. No solution to my issue which is a bit disappointing.

Manila seems to just read from a script and never seem to have any authority, nor will they connect you to someone who may help. That was my experience when I held the Platinum Charge. However, I have no knowledge on transferring to another card.

If, after speaking to the Plat team, you get the same result. The silver lining is, most people who apply for the Plat Charge get the bonus points anyway, even if they have held an AMEX product that excludes them from such bonuses for 18 months (as per standard T&C's).

However, I'm unsure about how you would go about getting your current points balance back. I suspect there would be a "holding system" available to them in some shape or form. Again, another way around this is by obviously transferring them out to where you normally send them. Alternatively, if you hold the Plat Reserve card (as a companion card i.e fee free), and keep it open they would surely not disappear and you would be free to re-apply for the Plat Charge.

One big thing to note before doing this is though, I believe the $400.00 Plat Reserve (companion card) travel credit is no longer available. I do not know how this would affect it being you would be "disconnecting it" from the Plat Charge you currently hold with the normal fee.

Most professional association cards have been closed to new applications for about 3 years now. Are you with an association that's still got an active agreement?

I hope it's active... it's through my union. The annual fee is $1200 instead of $1450?

I did hear back and they said nothing they can do.... I guess I'll need to make a decision come renewal time.

Hey Richh1833, hope you already resolved this issue? I had same issue than you just 1-2 weeks ago and i successfully changed that. My trick was keep calling (I called for like 3 times)and they will ask you to submit a screenshot in the "upload document" section and put some reference number on it, prooving you are a professional body member (CPA for me) and today the annual fee hit up its 1200 not 1450

Hey thanks for letting me know. Can I ask how long you had the card for? I've escalated this to multiple teams but it doesn't look like anyone has been able to help me.

They did mention that if I requested the change within 3 months of having the card it would be do-able.

Hey, I really didn't hold the card for too long - I applied on 4 Jan 2022 and got approved instantly(I wasn't knowing that there is a discount on plat charge card annual fee if being a CPA member). I lodged my request around 10th Jan and got approved last week around Thursday. I suggest you try new card member team,1300 557 743, I called this number and their agent was quite experienced even better than platinum service on this case

I'll give this a whirl but it's likely cause your card was very recent and I've had my card for 6+ months.
