I am trying to close in on my first attempt at Platinum and try to walk tall with the giants of FF....although saying that, they have Platinum One nowadays which means the bar has been raised yet again :(
Currently, I have 1105 status credits.
I need another 295 status credits to attain Platinum.
I have until end August to achieve this.

I have an upcoming trip to China on Cathay using Prem Econ (we used to use Business Class for long haul but recent changes to travel policy have forced a downgrade, dammit!) SYD-HKG-SYD (120 status credits) and Business HKG-TAO-HKG (120 status credits).

This trip will leave me with a shortfall of 55 credits. What to do???

Would Qantas be lenient enough to allow me into the next realm of FF-ness?
I have future bookings to come (SYD-PER-SYD, SYD-HKG-SYD, SYD-SIN-SYD all Prem Econ) but these will be in Sept/Oct.

Should I be trying to book my Cathay trip on Qantas to show my allegiance?
What else can I try?

You will have to look at a status run, QF wont grant you status in terms of an achievement if your close, only if its a renewal and you fall short. 50 SCs is easily and cheaply achieved ex Sydney on a quick run to Canberra in J on the weekend!

I agree with Markis, try to get those SC's via a status run before the end of August. Those other trips you have can be used in your next year as SC's against renewal of Platinum (which only requires 1200 SC's). With the trips you've posted, thats 320 SCs (80+120+120), a quarter the way to renewal only two months into your new year.

QF rarely grant status to new levels if you haven't made the grade. Rebooking with QF wont change this.

Have you considered a status run ASA (any seat award) - a return to canberra would net you the required SCs.

Thanks to all for your speedy replies.
I'll have to squeeze in a quick domestic return before month end.
Fingers crossed I get over the line!

Yeah from my perspective, given that there is also WPPG and now WPP1 (and CL and beyond) WP is just the new SG and SG (which is where I am now) is the new QP ;)

Actually the OP should do a flex fare return trip SYD-ADL. That will get them 60 SCs and over the line by 5 SCs.

I say do it, the benefits are worth it and at least you will be able to say you've achieved it at least once. Although I suspect after the first F lounge visit they will want to requalify.

As others have said...

You need to do a status run
You dont want to fall short of moving up to Platinum by such a small amount of SC's and forgo the benefits and extra points you'lll earn on your flights going forward

I am speaking from experience - off on a status run to Singapore in J class on Thursday that will take me past 1400 SC's (with the DSC offer) by my renewal date of the end of August - and onto the previously unacheivable Platinum (and the First Class lounge :D)

can you make your trip to China more circuitous (or is it locked in by company travel planners)?

My thoughts exactly ;)

If one was 55sc short of WP, I will also say go for it. That will give the flyer a minimum of 12 months of WP and 12 months of SG all for 55sc.

I ticked over to WP last night.
I now need to take a flight somewhere to see the difference. Nothing booked till October.

It is I, Leclerc !

go via sydney whatever you do :)
... internationally!

Well Done!

Take that QF501 (or even QF8) to SYD, than QF113 to AKL and get that full Flounging experience ... don't worry, you can catch up on sleep on the T-T flight. :p

I clocked up WP last week - still waiting on the welcome kit and tags
ill be testing the new found status a couple of times in October - have already been able to selected from a wider range of seats than before - be interesting to see if it makes any difference when actually travelling

Hello All
Cheers once again for all your ideas.

I had an unexpected return trip from SYD to PER just before my China trip; so that's done the done the trick and got me over the line into Platinum territory by a paltry 25SCs.

Was getting a bit nervous waiting for the and Cathay points to come through but sure enough they did appear.

Like Bodog, I now await the chance to avail of my newfound status.
So if you see a wide-eyed bloke shuffling about the Domestic business and Int'l first class QF LOUNGE, it'll probably be me.
Mine's a 12yr old scotch with ice....after my massage...
