Platinum (Possibly Gold?) Trick: Row 3 For Anyone!

For all the people getting so hot under the collar, do you really think this will impact your seat selection? Has anyone else who complained used another loophole before?

I think you have all created a storm in a teacup..

To the OP, nice tip to discover. Not sure if I'd use it myself though.

If row 3 is taken up in the future by anyone who's not WP or SG then I will cause a storm in a teacup until this issue is fixed.
How would you know? Are you going to ask people in row 3 "Excuse me, are you WP or SG? I'd like to see your boarding pass to know how you got those seats instead of me!"

Storm in a teacup. No one will know. And people are allocated row 3 at check-in, with no status. You'll never actually know.

Sorry, meant to be Unstated benefit.
Unstated benefits are exactly that, unstated.

It means that anyone may be in that row.

(and personally, I don't actually like row 3, I tend to take an exit row instead or row 4, and request a courtesy block on flights that are not full).

I assume then you have never taken advantage of any VA IT glitches?

This thread sure seems to put Wanker in Platinum..

Remember that booking row 3 isn't the same as sitting in row 3.

When VA introduced the new ticketing system the apostrophe in my name was omitted from tickets which caused a conflict with the name on my WP Velocity account. The result was that my row 3 bookings kept printing out as halfway down the plane and with no velocity account associated.
It was only like this for a short while until I changed my name on VA account, so I'll never know if it was manual intervention by check-in/lounge staff or a system trigger.

I am staying out of the debate. I have enough trouble getting further forward than row 7 most times and in theory tips like this one will make that even harder.

Have to agree with you there, row 3 really is the only perk i think is decent above gold and now everyone can get this, brilliant thanks for that !!!

So your favourite perk of being VA Wp is to secure a row 3 seat and you tell the world how anyone can get row 3. That's very unselfish of you (although a tad dopey perhaps).

Remember there are only 6 row 3 seats and you've now made those 6 open to all who know a VA plat. Thanks heaps!

All this talk of row 3 seats and I find myself assigned to one for the first time today and I didn't asked for it nor had the thought even crossed my mind. As many have repeated here, it's better not to expect something and have a pleasant surprise when it does happen...

Yes, I think will impact my seat select because the type of person who thinks row 3 is so great is also the type of person who would take a row 3 middle seat.

Really? I think you are stretching here.. for a start not anyone can do it, you need a WP who will make the booking for the person! chances of it happening on your flight.. bloody small!

I think people are well and truly overreacting here.

It is not as everyone can select row 3 is it?
I don't see this trick having that much of an impact on the current situation, it is not as of the VA seating system is free of bugs with or without this trick is it?

Yes really. And I present post #1 as an example of the type of person that I'm talking about, a platinum who does have row 3 access and who clearly thinks row 3 is so great. I'll hold up any number of examples of completely full row 3s followed by many rows of empty middle seats to represent the "small" chances of having some delusional soul in row 3 middle seats.

Sorry but really I think you and some other here are the delusional ones! how many row 3 seats are there? and how many flights per day across the network? now how many WP's do you think per day will make bookings for friends if they even knew about this "loophole". So chances are damn small, and you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Tell me have you used tricks to get Row 4 on Qantas (you know T-80? as many people here know), which really is CL/P1 territory when you use seat selection normally? If you do I would suggest you are a hypocrite...

You're the one going on about it. Who is creating the mountain? Because you can't allow me to have an opinion?

T-80 with qantas is not a trick. That is the functionality that qantas allows on their website. At T-80 the seat zones change. That is working exactly and precisely as designed by qantas. If you think that is the same as post #1then

You jumped down the poor OP's throat about it ruining your flight experience.. I am simply countering it will make ZIP difference to your flying with the number of seats per day and the number flights per day with the number of people NOT using the trick. You won't notice a difference...

We obviously aren't talking about the same T-80 trick then...

As I said this "trick" is of little consequence in the grand scheme of people flying. How many WP's do you know that are going to suddenly book tickets for people just to give them Row 3???

No, I jumped down their throat for calling anyone who disagreed with them a wanker. I stated my opinion and I've explained why it does make a difference in my opinion. It seems that you have nothing further to present beside "you're overreacting" and "it makes zip of difference". We've already established why those opinions from you do not alter my opinion. I have no idea why you keep repeating them at me other than to deny my ability to express my opinion, in the same way those in this thread calling me a wanka are doing.

I am not aware of any other so called trick at T-80 on qantas.

Actually I provided you with a basic formula to see how it would affect your flying experience... Lets look at it again. 6 seats per flight, there are how many flights per day in 737's and how many in E190's? lets take a guess that there well over 1,500 seats in row 3 per day across the network (there are probably more but it's late and I am not looking up numbers of flights per day now). Now add in how many WP's MAY help out someone and book them a ticket AND go to the hassle of selecting the seat for them. I'll bet less than 1 per WEEK and I am probably being generous on that too.

Now how again will it affect your travel? That on some random chance some WP has booked a ticket for a friend and it happened to be on the same flight you take! The probability is minute. You have more issue with a check in agent issuing Row 3 to some nobody at the check in desk!

I'm also not aware of the OP calling anyone directly a "wanker" merely spelling out a well known acronym here....

I am not aware of any other so called trick at T-80 on qantas.

Does that jog your memory?

I'd stop worrying. Virgin are going to close the loophole now that its been blabbed all over the web.

What is the big issue about "the type of person" who takes a row 3 middle seat. I'm not following this. What's wrong with taking the middle seat?

This assumes a level of competence from Virgin's IT team that i am yet to see much evidence of.
