Had an interesting call with Amex yesterday when I called to cancel the platinum charge card, in which the CSA advised that my annual fee is not due for payment until 24 March 2013, so "why not hold onto the card until then and enjoy the benefits".
That gave me an idea. The anniversary date for the plat reserve attached to my charge is 11 March. We are no longer using the charge card so the only charge that will appear between now and the march statement will be the $900 annual fee.
Have I found a loophole and can I book a free flight using the Reserve card on 12 March, then cancel both the Plat Charge and reserve and keep the flight? Or will Amex find some way to recoup the cost?
