Sorry for misleading everyone. Just made my booking and Amex said I had to use the credit flight.
Apparently told they had a run of members looking to book by the end of March and anyone who was waiting online but didn't get through to make their booking was given more time to book but the person I spoke to this morning said backlog has now been cleared so they've cut over to the travel credit.

Am i the only one who didn't get contacted by Amex about the change on my reserve card? I don't have plat charge but had reserve for years and always use it for return flights to Queenstown so definitely getting much less value. I'm going to see whether they refund annual fee to compensate.

Actually if you ask you can get an extension to the end of April

Tried that; agent said there was absolutely no chance at all. I asked for a manager to review and quoted my rather long loyalty to Amex, to no avail.

Whilst it might not work, I'd recommend the old hang up and call again trick!

I had tried again but simply got a more abrasive experience.

It is for naught; the demand to use the flight is now over.

I didn't argue the point as the flight I was booking cost $322 so much less than the travel credit.
Was more disappointed I'd posted incorrect information.

Has anyone been able to pool travel credits from Platinum Charge ($300) and Reserve ($400) in the same booking?

There doesn't seem to be a way to do it online - is it possible to do it over the phone and would AMEX charge a booking fee if that's the case?

Well - last time I tried to redeem my travel credit I called AMEX and was told you can no longer do it over the phone - this is also spelled out in their FAQs:

Q: I would like to book over the phone with assistance from a consultant.
A: The Travel Credit is available only for new bookings made via American Express Travel Online. However, the American Express Online Servicing team can assist you if you have any questions about your online booking. You can reach them on 1300 303 877.


Furthermore, in the FAQs it's also mentioned you cannot use multiple travel credits in the same booking:

Q: I have more than one Travel Credit? Can I use all for a single booking?
A: No, only one Travel Credit can be used per booking.

Sad but I thought this would be the case, next step to see if my credits overlap so I can double them up somehow for a decent trip, provided some of the world hot spots cool down a bit..............

Sad but I thought this might bet the case, kinda devalues the credits in a way, next step to see if they can overlap so you can double up for a decent trip, provided the world 'hot spots' cool down....
