Please, please let it be Mel-JNB/CPT

Does it mean anything in real terms? Or will this just allow NZ to put it's code on SA's PER-JNB flight and SA to put it's code on NZ's PER-AKL flights. It's hard to imagine NZ operating a service from (AUS)-JNB or SA to continue its services from AUS onto AKL.

I think at the moment this is exactly all it means

Could it not mean SAA metal in SYD or MEL as well as AKL? It's not like Qantas fly daily from SYD-JNB........and we know that V Australia wants a piece of the Sth Africa action.

It's actually quite a big deal to be given a clearance to "pickup" passengers/freight in a 3rd party country. I mean do you think that if SQ was given the same allowance on SYD-LAX, then they would just attach a codeshare onto United or ANZ? No, SQ would put metal on that route in a heartbeat.

It's SAA metal JNB-PER and NZ metal from PER to NZ.
From the Dow Jones Newswire:
"From Nov. 1, Air New Zealand, 76%-owned by the government, will share SAA's daily service between Perth and Johannesburg, as well as connecting domestic services to Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and East London.
SAA in turn will share Air New Zealand's daily Auckland-Perth service and connecting domestic flights to Wellington and Christchurch.

They will also share Air New Zealand's trans-Tasman services between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch to Sydney.

Code-sharing agreements allow passengers to book flights with one of the participating airlines, but may fly with the other airline and the signatories share the revenue at an agreed ratio."
