What happened to the good old cereal and juice breakfast combo? I had a few of these in February, but my last few early morning flights have all come with apple strudel and a guava fruit cup. I’m a huge fan of the cereal & juice combo, and I would love to see Virgin offer these permanently. They are such a healthier option to apple strudel pastries.

Thoughts anyone??

Trouble is cereal is not really a healthy option. My wife has heard of an experiment where they fed one group of rats healthy cereal and another the cardboard cereal box. Guess which group were in better condition at the end.

O/T I seem to recall that the MythBusters tested that a few years ago and busted it,I have also seen a Youtube where Adam Savage related a story about how they
retested the myth using lab mice, one group was fed cereal, one was fed a control diet and the other was fed pellets made of reconstituted cardboard, everything was fine till they arrived at work on a Monday and over the weekend one of the mice who had been eating the cardboard had obviously got so hungry and malnourished that he had eaten the other two mice:!: not sure if Savage made it up for the audience though.will try and find the Youtube video.
Cheers

Pretty poor experiment (myth busting) if they put the mice in the same cage. Might check out snopes once I finally get to work. Left ADL at 6am and still not there.

I think it depends on which cereal you're eating. Plain muesli is pretty healthy, toasted muesli is less so but still pretty good. Nutri Grain and Coco Pops are very high in sugar and are really a dessert.

I eat it because I like the taste, not for health reasons.

Bugger the health implications, bring back hot breakfasts to the domestic market I say, or as I said before, at least a Ham and Cheese Croissant! If I have to catch an early AM flight, I dont want cereal.

Would warm porridge be an acceptable warm brekkie lol

I recall this days about 5 years ago when QF were serving bacon and egg muffins. Was nice at first but then missed the simple cereal and banana. Also the scent was at times bit the best.

My thoughts are that if you are truly health conscious, you'll make the effort to eat properly at home and not rely on then random offering of an airline for breakfast. If someone served me cereal and juice I'd find it inedible. A danish however while not healthy, is at least tasty enough to justify it's consumption and I wont be regurgitating it all day like I do a sloppy bowl of cereal. Since when did onboard catering become someone's main meal of the day anyway? It's just a token snack offering meant to make the flight more enjoyable and pass time. Not intended to be a dietary plan. Serve me something tasty I might consider eating, leave my diet to me.

Indeed, it was I. I had my usually breaky, a water. But topped up with hot breakfast in the MEL J lounge. yay! First hot lounge breakfast in 2 years, besides pancakes.

OT The whole incident was pretty interest, descend was pretty quick and clearly unusual, IMO. Seat belt light came on just at the end of J breakfast service, announcement about turbulence. Then sometime later the pilot says depressurisation problem. The CL in 4F who claimed to have done 4000 flights said it was his first diversion. The PS in 4E was pretty excited, loudly rang a couple of people. I sent an SMS to SWMBO. Plus got to take TJE MEL-SYD as QF730
