I probably know the answer but was looking for the rationale why you dont get points for a non flown sector when the ticket is fully paid and non refundable? I have a AMS-LHR sector that I cant fly and it does not make sense to cancel (as I still need SYD-AMS sector) and refund would 'cost' me lots in change fees and 'higher fare needed' clauses. Point is that I will be no show on return flight but the airline (QF) still got their money (and dont need to feed me) so why dont I get my points and SCs. Sure the loyalty is about the money and not really if I actually sit on the plane or not.
Maybe there is an easy answer but could not think of one :-)

I'm not sure of the real reason, but I would say SC must be earned via BIS to prevent the possibility of people being able to 'buy' status.

Can't think of a good reason you shouldn't get the points though..
