I know there is something in the T&Cs of the FF program but I'm not 100% sure what it means. Planning trip to South Africa and have options flying Qantas or SA airways or flying qantas on SAA flight nr (or SAA on Qantas nr?). It seems to make a diff in price even if actual plane is the same. I want to earn Qantas points and SCs - what will earn me these? Of course qantas flight on QF flight nr but what abput Qantas flight on SAA flight nr OR SAA flight on Qantas flight nr (not sure if this exist). Thanks for clarifying.

If you want SCs, you need to travel on the QF code (assuming you're travelling on the SA flight PER-JNB).

QF & SAA are the only carriers that have direct nonstop services to South Africa from Australia and they operate a codeshare (joint QF & SA flight No's)
ex SYD is operated by QF on a QF aircraft with both carriers having 50% of the seat capacity (747 - Longreach)
ex PER is operated by SA on a SA aircraft with both having 50% of the seat capacity (A330 - with roomier seat pitch in economy - fullflat beds in business)
SAA allows you to earn QF FFP when flying on a SAA tkt/flight No's to South Africa No's however the points do not accrue to SC's
It is in your best interest to compare the price though, SAA's fare's & taxes etc are, in the main, "substancially" cheaper than QF
SAA's small team in AUS offer great personal service, seat assignments, recognition at the airport etc quite unique these days!

Old topic but I have to ask the question!

I am booked on a SYD-JNB flight next week and unfortunately SAA came in $3,000 cheaper than the QF fare. Amazing isn't it.

I will quite comfortably requalify for QFF WP, but I am just short of Star Gold on my Krisflyer account. What are my options here? From the reading I've done I'm screwed?

QF will grant points but not SC's and *A won't recognise flights on OW metal?

HELP :)

Looks like you'll be getting some points for a future xASA to help you re-quality Plat. Can't see any reprieve.

Change your flight to the PER-JNB SAA metal alternative. It should be cheaper, and you can also fly SYD-PER on VA and credit to SQ.

I'm on a Sydney JNB next week as well. I managed to get a discount J fare on a QF ticket that was competitive with SAA, so no compromise on points required.

Hmm. I've emailed SQ over this and they directed me to a link which says the flight will earn both Krisflyer and Elite miles. Now I'm confused. I swear I read on here SQ don't offer miles on Star Alliance partners when it's not on Star metal... help? I fly tomorrow and I'm not sure which card to use. Would prefer SQ.
