Points Count [How many do you have?]

Just curious , is it okay to apply for credit cards with bonus offers even if your credit rating dips below 600.

I'd say yes. My credit score has never been over 700 and recently dipped to 495 and I was able to apply for and get credit cards. Also as with anything financial, it depends on your personal situation.

My personal situation is that I need to make some large expenses and also have the capacity to pay the whole thing in one go, so I thought it made sense to go after a rewards card and get some bonus QFF/VFF points on the side :)

QF 800K and wife has similar
AA 1.1M and wife/daughters have around 550K
Velocity 100K
SQ 300K
Alaska 80K
Lifemiles 350K
Hilton 120K
Radisson 80K
IHG 240K

And a few bits and bobs

Thanks for your insight. Yes I do agree depends on personal situation but was just curious if it will have any impact on applying new cards in future. I will start making some smart moves to increase my point balance as I don't have a lot of planned travel in the near future.

For people that have high numbers of hotel points are these transfer from cards or purchased or lots of hotel nights?

My hotel points are mainly from Amex transfers. Don’t earn much as most of the hotel nights as they are booked on points Still have 500k Hilton point from 3-4 years ago when Citi Prestige had a promotion to transfer them at 4:1 ratio. Meant to use them for Conrad Maldives but have had to cancel twice for other destinations

My points count in 2020 is going up at a greater rate than I expected this time last year. My points are coming back due to cancellations and my estimation based on points already refunded, cancelled but not back in my account or flights to be canceled is around 1.4M QF points and around 600K SQ miles. I have already have transferred all my VA points to SQ.

Maybe 2021 will be the new redemption travel year.

I managed to take a few redemption flights and hotel nights early in the year. However, given that upcoming reservations are likely to be cancelled I will end up with an all time high balance of 3+ million points and that's after burning 400k that won't be coming back. However, our earnings rate has slowed due to lack of spend. Can only buy so many groceries.

But there seems to be no limit on how much Qantas Wine you can buy, unlike f2f shopping.

I have 26 VA points!
My wife has 15,264 points.

If it all goes pear shaped then we are in a much better situation than we were with Ansett so small losers in the scheme of things.

Our family might get an entry into the biggest losers in the VA points thingy. Lucky I have some warehoused points.

It depends a lot on which rating agency you are using. I'll check but don't think that many actually go as high as 990.

My ratings come from the biggest rating co, Veda (old name) new is Equifax.
OK. I'll check mine later with them but don't find them very helpful mostly. ie my login is incorrect which is a problem at their end but it's too hard for them to fix. Doesn't give me much confidence re anything else.

got approx 140k in Qantas, only 778 in Velocity - redemption recently of over 90K and 575 in Aeroplan (Air Canada)

Burned all my Velocity points on gift cards. cough value I know but better than getting zero for them. Now, watch out Drummond Golf!
