Really great initiative*

*If it didn’t rely on the paranoid NZ government and AU state governments overreacting to low case numbers and destroying peoples travel plans

Depending on what they charge could be reasonable value as fares will be high initially.

At least something to spend points on (the selection in QF's NZ store is not great). I suspect will be a long time before I can use points again for upgrade to F.

I wonder by offering flights on points if things change then it might be easier for everything to be refunded.
but of course can't be that simple.

Should be a good deal if you're booking in J.

Not so much if you're booking Y awards - it's 36,000 Qantas points + $267 for a return SYD-AKL award ticket in Y.

The Points Planes are now available following the trans-Tasman bubble announcement.

Seats on all Qantas flights operating between 19-21 April are available as Classic Flight Rewards.

Given the Y fares, using points for economy may not be such poor value after all if you're desparate to get to NZ ASAP...

Not great value ex-NZ. Taxes make up such a large part of the cost for trans-Tasman. They seem to have increased a bit during the past 13 months.

I don’t think our government has quite worked out that now isn’t really the time to be raising tax on international travel.
