Points strategy recommendations?

Hello all. I've long been a fan of the QFF programme. I don't fly QF internationally but burn their points on F redemptions on EK typically. I have bulk QF miles now but haven't earned a single SC in 3 yrs so have fallen to gold. Not sure if this really makes any difference when booking redemptions, it does not seem to.

I'm thinking about switching allegiance. I run about 600k pa through my amex (mostly with the ATO at half earn), and probably another 200 on whatever is the credit card du jour, I typically sign up four per annum.

Is there a better programme out there for me, be that velocity or amex points to transfer, or other? Welcome thoughts.

Cheers,
Alex

There is pro and con with any of them. If you have a lot of QF points then you can use them for bus RTW tickets. Best value. To me, Velocity has its own flaw, not the best. But we are limited of choices when it comes to FF program in Australia vs. US. With Velocity. Most ppl use it target Singapore, QR or United. I saw lots of complaints from Platinum members too. Can't please everyone I guess.

If you can earn lots of Amex then you have more options to choose where to transfer them to redeem for flights

The ability to convert Amex to Avios via QR is one of the best partners. CX is reported to have good availability via Asia Miles. Unfortunately, Amex devalued SQ transfers. If you are redeeming in J then status of program matters little.

For non-Amex points, there aren't many great earning cards outside QF and VA. Points Club and One World Awards (if you are prepared to invest the time in learning, searching and call-centre contact) are in QFs favour but reasonably-priced QR and SQ are good for VA.

Can you get half earn on a personal Amex card by paying tax bill with ATO ? I thought no chance to get points anymore paying ones tax bill ( other than some other complicated workarounds)

Thanks all. I forgot about this post. I'll go with the amex points for a bit and see how we go. And yes, I do still get points from ATO spend on a blue amex that I've held for the better part of twenty years - don't know if that's a grandfathered arrangement.
