Hi all,

Just had a quick question regarding the use of points to upgrade. Am due to fly from LHR to SIN next month in J with Mrs Mingster and was thinking about using points to upgrade to F (as it will probably be the only time in my life that I will be able to fly in F). Was just wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to how the upgrade process will work. We will be booked together so can I just request an upgrade for both of us using my points or will I have to transfer points to her first for her to upgrade herself separately and if that is the case, will Qantas make the decision to upgrade us or to not upgrade us together or will we run the risk of them upgrading only one of us and not the other? Thanks in advance.

You need to be on a Revenue (or any seat award) ticket (i.e. your Business class booking is not a classic award).

Such requests for a points upgrade is for all passengers on the booking, it will be both of you upgraded or neither.

If one of you has higher status than the other they should be making the upgrade request on behalf of both of you.

Finally, you will need 70,000 QFF points (35,000 for each PAX) in the account of the requester at least 24 hours before the flight.

And you find out if you were successful, typically between 24 and 5 hours prior to departure.

Hi there

Just some consumer advice.

I flew first on a 744 service recently and I was very disappointed with the old seat and the other elements of the product such as food and amenties. The service was exceptional, big credit to the crew.

My advice unless flying on an A380- keep the 70k for Y upgrades or burn it on something else.

Enjoy your journey :p

Isnt the food on the A380 the same as the food on the 747? The same would be said for the amenities as well surely?

The only difference would be the seat. I would certainly go for the upgrade - especially if travelling with the wife...

The 744 is still a great way to go in First even though it looks dated against the A380 the staff try very hard to give you a memorable trip.
I take what is running on points and a FASA is still great value on points redemption for where we are going.

I agree with both cove and simongr. I just returned from the US in Zone A with J service SYD-SFO and F on the return LAX-MEL. Same hard product both ways on 747 but the food, wine and service ( bed with duvet etc) was well worth the upgrade to F. As stated the amenities and food are identical to the A380 F .
YMMV

Thanks all for your kind replies.

Just to confirm, we will be on paid tickets as I am moving from London to Singapore for work, so fingers crossed we will be put on a Qantas A380 flight that will have F availability for upgrades.

I have Silver status which isn't much but I guess I should be applying for the upgrade using my account.

Once again, thanks for your input and your help.
