Not clear on the Platinum website, but can you upgrade using points on Virgin Intl or Airnz code share flights?

I for one cannot figure out why they are yet to introduce upgrades on long haul flights. Most people would agree that upgrades with miles are one of the most sought after aspects of most FF programs and obviously Virgin are happy to do it domestically - so why not for Intl??

I have heard it's to do with the IT system (Domestic and Long haul international use totally different systems). I believe it's in train but who knows how long it will take.

Same ridiculous IT system that doesnt allow a velocity club agent do a points or platinum upgrade in lounge.
I hate giving Joyce money but its the little things as mentioned tha need prioritising.

VAI uses Amadeus where as VAA/NZ use navitaire. Due to some technical glitches the Sabre switch over has been delayed till October I believe.

The official time was march 13 last time I saw it referenced anywhere so October would be a bonus!

I was told in the BNE lounge that if you request it 3hrs beforehand then they could do it for you.

I agree Snoopy, I'd love to covert my *A travel which usually totals around 75,000 miles a year to Virgin and their partners but this is a real show stopper for me. That and the fact that there is no intra Europe partner.

Neither of these are a show stopper for me but I agree they are both major flaws in the current system.

Agree we need points upgrade.

However, welcome Points and Pay! I just snagged a business flight Syd - Lax for next year. 95k points + $400. The points and pay system has a slider, I could have spent 104k points and just paid $100 approx. So for me this is just fine.

Also re QF, the upgrade apply and pray system never ever worked for me, I just don't want to risk 14 hours in Y - I plan my trips so I get off from J in reasonable shape to commit commerce the day I arrive. For me that can't happen if I sit in Y and don't sleep.

I agree the QF model for upgrades isn't the best and I much prefer the model used by most other airlines where an upgrade is confirmed at the time of requesting it. With any luck VA will take the latter of two choices.
