Anyone knows a company who rents pocket wifi devices in Australia for using in Europe?

Hi boomy, I have seen Hertz advertising them with car rentals if thats any good to you

I've used Tep wireless before with some success, although with most Australian carriers having international passes which include data, I usually just use my mobile on roaming with an appropriate pack.

You don't get Tep here, they ship it to your first hotel or you collect it at LHR.

Yes I've seen that as well, it's only for use in Australia tho. I'm looking for a devise can pick up and return in Australia as I'll be landing and departing from different countries.

I'm with Telstra, they offer roaming package of $450 for 30 days include calls, texts and 2.20GB. I need more data so this package isn't suitable.

Tep is indeed the best option I've found so far. They offer 30 days unlimited data for just under $300. Pick up at LHR is convenient as I'm going to land there but then need to send it back via FedEx later which brings the total costs to almost $360.

Was hoping there are better options available. I'm surprised to see there is so little competition in this market.

I have previously used a Vodafone sim purchased here on international roam but I was charged local Europe rates as you roam on Vodafone networks.

I sent my Tep back from Europe and it cost me about 10 Euro through the post. It doesn't need to be couriered.

Interesting option! Have you used this sim before?
Noticed they have counters at SYD/MEL Int.

Not used the SIM but have bought a UK SIM from them at the airport last year. Looks to be a very convenient option. Doubt would use the voice option much. Downside is the relative high SIM cost at $25 but for the ease of use I'd happily pay it

Thinking this will do me next year when I take my parents to the UK and Europe. It's similar to the Optus $2 per day SIM I usually get any friends visiting to sign up for.

Would it be cheaper to buy an unlocked wifi device in Australia and get local simcards (and then you can rent it to other AFFers)

I work in the roaming SIM industry and agree with most people here. Use an android/iPhone in hotspot mode, or buy a sub-$100 4G hotspot (many around). Get a local SIM, load it up and go nuts, or use a roaming SIM if you're visiting a few countries (we have products as do many of our competitors that give you plenty of data in most European countries).

Renting isn't necessarily the best option.
