Interesting video. The only thing I'd be interested in is whether the loader contacted the fuselage, and any damage there. The door is neither here nor there. It was on the leeward side.

Shame. I photographed this plane taxiing at Sydney airport last week whilst having lunch. Hope there’s no significant damage.

Gotta admire the optimism of the guy still there at the airport in that weather.... Hate to say it, but I don't think you're going anywhere soon, my friend!

Would like to be a fly on the wall as QF discuss with the ground handler the series of events and try put it on them.

I doubt that it would be put upon anyone. Any wind capable of moving the aircraft like that is beyond the normal scope of planning.

Pretty optimistic the assume that would be interesting.
Fundamental safety issue that people do not stay out working in wind like that.
There might be a very brief moment of interest when anyone who suggested otherwise was kicked out of the meeting

@Mattg, how does that affect the calculations of Qantas' fleet utilisation?

Based on the current schedules, there is an operational "spare" available until 14 February next year. But clearly having a 787 out of service for an extended period doesn't bode well and there could be major disruptions if any other aircraft need unscheduled maintenance.

VH-NXE B717 had extensive fuselage damage - it was effectively a write off (but wasn't due to "we don't want a hull loss" reasons) - and that took around 100 days (and a lot of cash) to repair.

I'm sure this damage is no where near as extensive and will be fixed much more quickly - with a caveat I'm not an expert on carbon fibre structures and how that complicates the matter.

I've seen fuselage punctures repaired in a matter of days - albeit not carbon fibre.
