I thought Qantas was using Swissport for ground handling?

For domestic. QF has used Dnata for years, as do a lot of other international airlines. This won't just effect QF, but most of the big players including EK, SQ, DL, AC, EY etc.

I hope it takes over a week for the strike to actually go ahead. very selfish as we fly SQ out of BNE next tuesday.

Different ports use different contractors, Melbourne SQ use Swissport for example. So maybe BNE doesn't use DNATA for SQ. I'm not too sure.

Couldn’t find an equivalent for BNE or MEL.

Dnata definitely the big dog at SYD.

What day is the strike? Im flying internationally on Tuesday and have no choice but to check luggage given duration of trip, different climates and need to bring multiple gifts.

Unions strike, it achieves nothing except to inconvenience people who cant change the workers salary/conditions, doent influence airline bosses one iota

We fly internationally next Wednesday and have a long trip with extremes of climate from tropical to high alpine destinations. Closely watching the situation.

The article linked above seems to only mention Qantas and other airlines' international operations? Would that be correct? Anyway, I've already booked back-up VA revenue flights HBA-DRW next week as I don't trust QF (points).

But it doesn't tell you which airlines in which airport do they do the baggage handling for.
Interestingly the BNE airport site lists Toll Dnata whereas in other airports I looked at it is Dnata.

Yes, I googled to see if Virgin used DNATA and didn't find a clear result.

It does achieve a few things, and possibly not the achievement the workers are wanting:

• Depending on the contract between dnata and the airlines, there are likely SLAs that will have negative financial impact on dnata (likely one of the aims of the unions).
• Disruptions to the airlines operations impacting their customers may drive future decisions about which ground handling agency to choose when contracts are expiring.
• If airlines choose to take their business elsewhere because they deem dnata's operations to be unreliable as a result of industrial action by their workers, then dnata may well end up reducing its workforce as a result or reduced demand and reduced financial revenue.

Just because there is a right to strike and just because the union is granted approval to take industrial action, does not mean the workers actually get the outcome they desire (or perhaps deserve)
