Isn't it best to use points to maximise value? If so, it's best to use QF points on partners which charge little or no carrier fees and use AA or BA or AS miles for booking Qantas flights. (Yes, QF's restrictions on international routes are an issue already for that.) For those of us who use Qantas points in the most efficient way (i.e. on international partner awards), this change would be terrible, as it would reduce the value of the only even vaguely competitively valued awards in QFF while providing no upside.

As much as I’d like you to be right, there’s now 10 million competing QF members for very few QF Metal reward seats so the idea you can, as a QF FF, get a reward ticket/s when you prefer is next to naught other than upon first release. (You’re probably pretty right with the AA AS Members since tell me the demand of Americans for flights from Sydney to London. Close to zilch I imagine)

Of course, for those who live for the freeze and white Christmas or the thawing of a fresh crisp spring, there’s usually decent seat availability in Feb/Mar or Nov.

I don’t think there can then can Be a blanket rule on this, and of course reward redemptions don’t earn SCs so I just accept the reality of the circumstances I’m faced and clearly from the forum threads associated with DSC, plenty of paid fares.

I do accept the best value is J & F award so if you can take advantage of them, however far ahead good luck to you

Wonderful to hear that availability is increased, but like a previous commenter, it is unlikely that on the Melb. to LA or the SF to Melbourne any changes will occur whilst the B787 is used....not enough J seating. With a commitment to twice fly across the ditch, what chance will there be to use my bundle of points to get two awards per flight in J. Will just have to accumulate more useless points and pay for the J tickets outright.

Has anyone heard any further news on this proposed change to award bookings?
Well, all this is based on for now, was a survey that Qantas used to "test the waters". So I'd be surprised if any actual policy changes had come from that already. Not saying it's not going to happen but it will most likely take a while still.

I got a different survey a couple of weeks ago with a completely different bunch of options. I can't recall what they were, and there was a confidentiality message at the begiining, but suffice to say that none enthused me.

It appears that they are continuing to test the waters, and may well keep on doing so.

Cheers skip
