PR's sale ends tonight.

One example of a fare in J that undercuts QFi's sale by about A41,500:

Melbourne (MEL)to

Los Angeles (LAX) (via MNL)
07 May 2025 - 21 May 2025
From
6,084 AUD*

Round-trip

From the PR website, departing SYD on Monday 19 May and LAX on Monday 2 June, the J return fare is A$4,999.02.

Travel is naturally via MNL so it has a time penalty compared with flying nonstop, but it's a big saving.

Looks like PR is actually selling for mid $5k ex BNE/MEL to SFO/YVR (can also open jaw home from LAX).

But that ANA fare ex SYD could be of interest to some. Good connections in HND.

Don't be put off by not knowing anything about PR.

It's a good 'second tier' airline. Its Boeing 773ERs are not completely lie flat (there's a slight gradient to the seat extenders) but have a generous seat pitch. I've been able to sleep OK.

Way better than paying QFi's ripoff fares with the very average at best service QFi is known for.

I don't think that many people are put off, just that PR is also not at the JP airlines quality which are the alternatives suggested here.

Also the connections. It’s a long layover in MNL. Similarly, pretty hard to avoid a long layover on JL. ANA looks surprisingly good (apart from the departure ex SFO but arrives at a good time into SYD).

FJ probably has the best one stop connections across the Pacific? and obviously more direct.

I almost went the Bula Route option for my next trip to the US but ended going with CX (which is going further out of the way than MNL), but for about the same price I could get home one stop from JFK.

Unfortunately, the QF SYD-YVR J fare for $5,999 hasn’t come back for the last couple Sales cycles. We did that about 18 mths ago. The actual flight SYD-YVR was possibly one of the best longhaul flights I had had for ages.
