I've seen CI MEL to LGW for $4000, I think it was Direct Flights. But the question I'm asking to myself is how much price affects product. I haven't flown VN but I am told by those who have that it quite good.

See discussion above. CI is probably a fraction better than VN in terms of cabin furnishings. But otherwise same same overall.

$4000-$4500 is the new entry level for full flats AU-Europe. Previously we'd only get recliners or angled flat for these prices, or have to combine separate tickets via asia for full flats (in the $3000 range).

Matt Graham's article in the FF Gazette was excellent (as usual) but I believe that apart from online travel agents, a 'bricks and mortar' travel agent that specialises in travel to Philippines (and hence books many seats on the national carrier) may be able to do a little better fare wise (although as with so many airlines, available dates may be sparse.)

There are several of these travel agents in Sydney, and at least three in Melbourne, plus from memory one in Brisbane. They tend to be in the suburbs, unlike say airlines specalising in travel to mainland China that sometimes (at least in Melbourne) are in the CBD. However with most if not all you can deal with them by phone or email.
