Pre-departure RAT test for China?

Just wondering has anyone here plan to fly to China in the near future? I am weighing up a trip to see my family.

Starting on 29 April they have got rid of PCR tests but you still need to do a RAT test in the two days before departure. Does anyone know can they be self-administered or do they need to be done at a set location? Has anyone been to China recently and have experience of how they check results?

Also, it seems that visa processing times are 2 months so I will only go on a six-day visa-free transit into a third country. The only practical route for me is MEL-PVG-KIX-PVG-MEL with MU (China Eastern). I can get a fare for under $1000 in economy. China Eastern economy class sux but it's the first time I've got a chance to see my family in four years. Otherwise, I can try and book an Air Asia premium flatbed for the outbound leg but would need to still buy a commercial economy flight home and it would probably be at least double that.

Any ideas?

I am currently in SGN waiting to fly to PVG - I have not done RAT test as absolutely zero checking on arr - but if you do want do one self administer is ok just take pics b4 and after with date stamp on them and you holding test kit visually.

Up to you but I didn’t bother - they are only interested in seeing your health declaration QR code on arr

I sailed through PVG customs without a hitch - they only want to see your Health QR code and you are good to go.

Complete your Heslth Declaration via mini programs in WeChat - it’s so simple - but you can only complete it day before arrival

How do yoy find the mini programs in WeChat?

How is the weather in S'hai?
Overcast today - WeChat - tap Discover down bottom - then Mini Programs should be second from bottom - tap that and Customs Pocket Declation should be top of list - tap that then you will see Health Declaration / Edit Health Declaration - tap that and you should be able to start the process.

This last step can be a bit dicky but perservere and you will get there - well you just have to get there no choice
