... OWS and above??
Except exit seats in Y.
Oneworld Sapphire? In any case Ruby/Silver are eligible.

i.e. PS, SG, WP, OWR, OWS & OWE statues get free basic seat selection in economy: (Qantas Seat Selection | Advance Seat Selection)
Available directly after booking at qantas.com, Advance Seat Selection is complimentary if:
  • You are travelling on any Qantas operated domestic service.
  • You are travelling internationally in First, Business or Premium Economy cabins.
  • You are a Platinum, Gold or Silver Frequent Flyer or equivalent oneworld Frequent Flyer.
  • You are on the same booking and travelling with any of the above mentioned travellers.

The wording is typical QF Weasel words. Nearly as good as:

Exit Row seats are favoured by passengers due to the additional legroom offered, hence the ability to pre-purchase means that passengers have more choice for their inflight experience.

While true, is a very disingenuous spin on it.

I have very little experience flying in exit rows internationally, but when I flew SIN-SYD a month ago in Y one of the crew tripped over my foot while he was trying to serve breakfast. Thankfully food didn't go flying, too. How dare I stretch out my legs in the space I paid for! Waste of money IME.

I swear by the effectiveness of white socks in helping to prevent such and similar events ... :p

Best value of anything on the plane IMHO. I wear white runners and white socks and have never had a problem.

When you think about it, it really is a hazard. That area near the toilets that many people either line up at or go for a stretch is dangerous late at night if the cabin is darkened and you happen to be stretched out. I have been stood on a couple of times and it woke me but no injury.

It would not be impossible for someone to cop a broken foot if stood on the wrong way by a heavy person, likewise a person could easily fall when tripping over someone who is stretched out.

Maybe they need some PPE for exit row travellers?

I flew from Manila to Syd two days ago and was given an exit row for free, would not let me book it online it was blocked out, no charge for it upon check in.

Had the same deal on SYD/TYO, happy camper, though principally, IMO feel the level & way of 'extorting" more money without some due polite advanced information is a bit rough.

Hi Vis socks would do the trick.

They don't call it cattle class for no reason. Flying stopped being enjoyable for me a long time ago, purely a way to get from A to B in the fastest time possible. Start with that mindset and you won't have to deal with the constant disappointment that announcements like this bring. Advice for all us whY fliers !! I wonder when Qantas will start offering discounts on middle seats considering you get 2, not 1 unknown human organism next to you. That brings double the body odor and human interaction possibilities - not to mention the human highjumping required to go to the bathroom and perform your duties.

How was the flight? They are using A330's now?

Scored row 40 (first row behind premium economy, non exit row) on BNE/LAX & LAX/SYD recently. Heaps of leg room and no extra charge. Hope the airlines dont start charging for the non exit row good seats.

At the time of my flight I was gold but having flown today I have now reached the dizzy heights of Platinum, just waiting for it to kick in.

Flight was good, sat next to a doctor from Manila and he was an interesting guy to chat to.

I didn't actually check, but I think it was an A330. The ones where the exit rows have the big bow on the bulkhead side which doubles as a foot rest lol.

One thing about sitting so close to the toilets though is that apart from the previously mentioned possibility of being stood upon, the toilets really hum at times and I had to throw my shirt over my nose. Not pleasant lol.
