Pregnant woman moans about no lounge access when not entitled to it.

I never understand why people in this situation choose to sleep on the floor instead of going to a hotel*.

(*except when all the hotels are booked out as well obviously)

Brisbane has a glut of hotel rooms last I checked. Even the Sheraton is on sale most of the year. I just don't buy the story that she was hard done by.

There are several Motels close to the airport, which are reasonably priced. I am sure her husband could have arranged this for her and then claim all costs back on travel insurance.

Didnt think you could fly at 36 weeks? Thats pushing it.

It does sound pretty daft of her. However there are an astonishing number of people who live week to week with little or no spare cash for emergencies.

Or travel insurance

Or access to a credit card with some available limit

Completely agree with VA not letting her into lounge-that is a silly expectation

Is it a smart idea to be travelling at 36 weeks pregnant, with braxton hicks, and no safety net whatsoever? Not even someone else to lend you money?

I'd be sitting my butt at home where at least I know the local hospital and have family/friends available to help me.

I had to do this once in the USA. It was Valentine's Day. All hotels at and around the airport were fully booked and I had no idea what flight I would be put onto the next day as all the American Airlines staff had gone home for the night by the time I arrived at that airport. Even though I was a paid F passenger, I had little choice in this instance...

I will not pay last minute rates to sleep in a hotel for a few hours if airline does not pay for hotel accommodation and transfers to/from hotel and I don't have a good chance of claiming money back from travel insurance.

We all value money differently and what we spend it on.

I recall at Cleveland, OH airport about 10 years ago being amazed to see multiple stretcher beds with mattresses being stacked up close to a gate. It's the only place I've ever seen them. Does anyone know of other airports that have lots of portable beds that could be rolled out quickly?

I feel bad for the lady, however agree she should not be flying so late in her pregnancy. BNE is a pain to find late accom at - it's still a $30 cab ride to the nearest and then she'd be up for $130 probably. Others may sneer at such costs but they matter to a lot of people, and there is no shortage of DYKWIAs here who would be expecting to be looked after for free anyway. Ordinary journalism in the Daily Mail adding a VS pic in there, that's a different airline clowns.

Though the rooms would not be suitable as it became the Sofitel many years ago.Possibly the 4 points I guess you mean.
Back OT.The lounge closes overnight so did she expect VA to supply staff to keep it open?Did she expect just herself to be allowed in and not everyone else on the flight?
As for the comments on that article that a billion dollar company should be able to afford to let her into the lounge-well in the last financial year their financial position improved but they still operated at a loss.

Sure but presumably you won't also go whinging to the newspapers about it.

Yes, my apologies for shortening it, but it is better than my preferred name for that place which is unsuitable for a civilised forum. It was just an example of the abundance of hotel rooms available if one simply makes enquiries.

I suspect you've never been 36 weeks pregnant either JohnK :-)

If she wanted lounge access she should have paid for it/organised it prior to her trip.
