Evening Flyers,

I have flown a few times now in the PE cabin, and I have two questions:

1) What is the policy regarding closing of the curtain between Y+ and Y? I've only flown the 4-class v.1 747 on QF in Y+ (which is only 32 seats (4 rows) of Y+ with Lavs aft in Y) and I have noticed out of the last 4 flights they have only closed the curtains once, I realise its only another curtain for FA to get though but there is something nice about having that private cabin feel (and less noise)

2) I'm flying next month for the first time in Y+ but on 4-class v.2 747, which has 40 seats (6 rows) of Y+, but their are 4 lavs right smack bang in the centre of Y+, are these for Y+ passengers only or also for Y?

Sorry about boring question, Lavs not the most exciting of QF products and services

Welcome!

The curtains should be closed between Econ and PE (or at least that's my experience). Customers shouldn't be allowed to move forward into other cabins.

When the toilets are in PE you tend to get a lot of people coming up from Economy and using them (even though I believe they're not supposed to). This is probably because the next ones back are right down the back of the cabin.

hope this doesnt disappoint but P/Y still has an element of Y attached to it.. although the curtain between both cabins should be closed.. the 4 lavs at doors 3 are available for both Y and P/Y pax to use regardless of the different configurations... BUT u may find that most Y pax will use the 4 lavs located at doors 5 on an aircraft that has doors 3 lavs in the middle of P/Y cabin.. the exception is at times of 'peak demand' the cabin crew may direct Y pax to doors 3 lavs to help evenly distribute 'the load'...so to speak!;)
in a nutshell.. there r 8 lavs (4 at doors 5 AND 4 at doors 3) which can be used by ALL pax in the Y and P/Y cabins

Yeah I guess 4 lavs for 40 seats is a bit of an overkill, pity about them being the focal point of that Y+ Cabin on that version.

Y PAX don't hate me for having the same meal as you but on china and white linen when your waiting for the Lav :)

sadly when the aircraft were reconfigured to 4 class, qf didnt relocate 2 of the lavs to better suit the 'new' seatplan.. and cabin crew were the first to voice their concerns ;) (i think cost involved with moving lavs was the reason)... hopefully, when the 2012 refurbishments commence on the 9x744s being kept in the fleet are rolled out, this situation will be rectafied....as the TOTAL interiors are being replaced!!! so im told!!;)

Makes sense. I agree it's a pity that QF didn't choose to move the lavs in PE on that configuration.

I think you will find that moving lavs is an extremely low priority due to the complexity.

The lavs are installed prior to the fuselage pieces being joined and they stay on board for the life of the aircraft as they are larger that the doorway openings.

Straitman, I agree with oz_mark. My experience of Y+ last year was J- meals. Only bit the same as Y was the ice block for dessert.
My lunch was:
Green leaf salad with beans and bocconcini
Roasted chicken with green olives, tomato and smoked paprika
or
Italian style braised beef with potato mash and green peas

cheese & bikkies
Ice block, plunger coffee, tea

Refreshments - turkish bread sandwiches, as per J, I think, fresh whole fruit, shortbread, cheese & bikkies, chocolate bar

brekky before LA was:
continental - OJ, cereal, apple & cinnamon pain de mie, seasonal fresh fruit
hot - OJ, fruit salad, vege frittata with slow roasted toms & field mushies, apple & cinnamon pain de mie
Plunger coffee, tea

Wines were a sub- set of J wines. Champers was champers, not bubbles - Charles heidsieck brut reserve. Wines I noted were Penfolds Koonunga hill, Seventy six shiraz cab.
Other bevs listed that I don't think are avail in Y:
chivas 12yo scotch, glenlivet 12yo malt whisky, baileys, martell
vsop cognac.
These could be avail in Y. Not sure.

Does it really matter if the curtain is open or closed or the WHY passengers are using the wrong toilets? ;)
