I noticed a JQ ad on TV the other night.

Went something like this....
JQ SYD to PER, only $199.
From the JQ Website below (for carry on only) -

Perth

Sydney $169 Mid March - Early April 2011

Got me thinking about QF pricing (as I used to purchase $199 QF SYD-PER vv fares).

So, l had a look for same day and as close as possible for departure times too. Turns out QF is only $10 more expensive, but you get; a meal, drinks, luggage and SC + points. JQ are meant to be a LCC, but their pricing of $10 cheaper than QF doesn't really reflect that to me.

Not uncommon on the PER flights, especially when QF have a sale such as at the moment, which have prices a bit lower than their normal sale prices.

JQ may be an LCC, but that doesn't make them (or Tiger for that matter) always a Low Price Carrier (LPC)

I see this regularly on other routes - it seems like they are filling the JQ flights up quicker and then having to discount the QF ones when they are left with more capacity.

Too many people just assuming JQ is cheapest and booking it without comparing perhaps?

Absolutely.. From anecdotal evidence among my friends, they just book Virgin or Jetstar or Tiger because they're the "cheap airfares"..

Thats advertising for you, does what its meant to for the majority

Don't tell them to stop - a choice between JQ and QF is a no brainer!

Currently in Darwin for work. It's a fairly long flight up here from Brisbane so I was keen to avoid Jetstar. Virgin have poo poo departure and arrival times so my only choice was Qantas. Travel booking person at work says no Qantas, we have a policy of taking the cheapest appropriate flight. We could agree that the Virgin flights were not appropriate. They still refused me Qantas. Jetstar are a LCC so that's what I have to take, apparently. Never mind that the Jetstar ticket (with checked baggage) to Darwin was the same as Qantas and going home Qantas is $30 cheaper.

Maybe it's better this way. Keep all the bogans on Jetstar with their "cheap" tickets and leave Qantas to more civilised folks.

Time for a new job methinks ;)
