Priority baggage for QFF Gold Members

Count me on a concerted letter writting campaign about the inconsistencies. In fact, if there's enough support, I'm happy to draft a letter that others can adapt.

Seems pretty useless in the end.

We had our bagged tagged as QP (Priority) and was third last out in BNE two weeks ago. Which was again a reminder to travel carry-on only wherever possible.

Intl seemed to work well with J tags though.

Thanks guys, appears it is just luck of the draw!

Unfortunatley I won't be able to test the Intl anytime soon as I'm in J anyway, but the inconsistancy is a little annoying. I spent a good 15 mins waiting at the non-priority thing in LAX while my bag did laps on the priority one.

If I remember correctly I used to get the business (purple) tags as a Gold on both domestic and international flights. In my experience priority baggage does not seem to work the way it is meant to work most of the time.

No need for carry-on only. This is where spending 10-15 minutes in the lounge after a flight comes in handy. Luggage is waiting for me on the carousel most of the time....

Okay, here's what I've put together by way of a template-type letter others can adapt:

Dear Sir/Madam
I have been a member of your frequent flyer program for <X> years and appreciate the opportunity to fly Qantas whenever I can.
Having attained gold status <X months ago/earlier this year etc.> I have had a mixed experience with the priority baggage benefit associated with my membership. Your website is a little unclear on this benefit in that it only says “priority baggage”; it does not explain whether this entitles me to purple business tags or orange priority tags. Additionally, it would seem many of your check-in staff are as unsure as your website; I have often received a mix of purple and orange tags on the same type of flight (ie. a two class domestic flight).
I often travel for business and, where possible, try to do so with only hand luggage. However, on those occasions where I am away for a few days and need to check a bag, I appreciate the fact that Qantas expects to deliver my bags to the carousel among the first. Sadly, in my experience, this is very much a hit and miss situation. While there have been times when my bag has appeared at the front, far too often it seems to be down the back of the line and certainly not ‘among the first to be delivered’. I’m more than happy for my bag to appear at the back of the <orange/purple> tags but it is particularly frustrating when many non-priority bags get delivered first.
In my experience Perth Airport seems to be the worst for this with so-called priority baggage being among the last to appear on the carousel.
I’ve worked hard to achieve my gold status and I certainly value it but If Qantas can’t offer this benefit consistently then I don’t believe it should be published as a benefit at all. It would be appreciated by many, I’m sure, if this benefit could be realised much more often.
Yours faithfully
It should be altered by everyone that uses it so as to not look like some kind of carbon copy letter but I think it captures the point. For those wanting to mail the address is GPO Box 4537, Melbourne Vic 3001.

There is also the option to email Qantas from their website (help>contact us>frequent flyer).

Perhaps with an AFF letterhead and make known that it is a concerted effort from a significant disgruntled group??.:)

As posted earlier, I have written to them 3 times about priority tagged luggage coming out last at PER. Further I got palmed off on damage, and watched with horror my bag being heavily thrown around through the plane window. Dispite first hand evidence, QF do not give a stuff about baggage handling, and even less about the general mess that pretends to be an International airport in Perth!
Nevertheless, I will join you in this campaign.

Would not an "Australian Passenger Charter" (like the one in Europe) to force some responsibility onto Airlines flying into and around Australia, be a better idea our forum could drive?
I'm thinking cancelled flights, on time delivery, airline responsibility to passengers for baggage, and expenses.
There's enough of us to drive this to the media, surely!:)

OK I am in JLounge at SYD T1 now. I just checked in a bag and they did not put on any priority for me (I am QP PS). I asked where is my tag, she said "INT'L ports do not have priority tags. OKAY I will put a business one if you want". LOL  she said "We don't normally do this for domestic people you know" ....

QF Dragons were really nice this morning, extra nice ... ! The barista here works 5 days a week, she recognised me   from previous travels

Flyng back from Gathering #3 on Sunday, after waiting about 15 minutes at the baggage carousel, one solitary bag emerged. It was mine  The others at the carousel were less impressed.

It probably came down earlier on QF455  :p

(BTW, I was once moved to an "earlier" MEL-SYD flight that ended up arriving later than my original. Our bags were circling around on their lonesome as we came down - they had been transported on my original flight.)

I totally support you comrades in swamping QP with the form letters about "guaranteed" priority baggage delivery and will be yelling loud encouragement from the rear, as erm... I received an email from QP advising probable comp'ing to SG this year, even though I'm a bit past halfway there:rolleyes:.
I will however provide a "second strike" with the letter at a later date after I see the if the generosity of QP unfolds positively.

Was on QF19 today (SYD-BNE-Manilla). I got off at BNE.

No order whatsoever, despite BUSINESS purple tag. There were only purple tgs, but they were just all mixed. I had to wait 10 mins after belt started to get my 8 kilo bag  (Liquids, therefore no carry on)

Classic "no order" of the bags. Caused me to miss the train and had to waste yet another 30 minutes for next one :(
