Priority Baggage on QFi - has this premium pax benefit been eroded too?

Arriving on QF32 last Sunday evening, delayed 1:26, WP travelling in F.

From first bag coming out (a stream of untagged economy bags, following by sporadic business tags), finally 20 minutes later the F tag bags come out.

I'm sorry, but putting my WP aside, if I'm travelling in F, I darn well want my bag out in the first batch as 20 minutes is ridiculous. Not good enough QF.

I would like to know if anyone else has experienced the new QF 'priority' baggage service lately? Perhaps that's part of the union's industrial action - annoy the premium pax who pay the premium fares and keep them in their jobs. Good strategy guys.

Apologies for the rant, but at 21:46, my patience is rather thin and standing around for 20 mins watching economy bags go round not my idea of a good time.

My partner and I returned from Europe in early July this year via Hong Kong. We were London-Hong Kong in QF FIRST (worst breakfast I have ever had on an airline in my entire life). We checked in for our QF flight to Brisbane at the QF first counter in Hong Kong. As WP should have had FIRST bag tags - despite QF 98 to BNE only being two class A330 - but NO, didn't happen - only business tags, and when arrived bags came off half way through the rabble.

Domestically these days its a total cough shoot. Some days your bags are off in the first few/half a dozen - other days its 15 minutes wait. Maybe its because the "BUSINESS" symbol on the paper tags on traditionally non-electronic bag-tag routes are now s small the handelers cant see them - who knows?????

They don't put First tags on bags when there is no First cabin.

I believe that this is the "official" policy, but in spite of that I have occasionally had F tags on my bags when travelling on flights with no F cabin.

I fly to NZ three/4 times a year and have FIRST tags put on - QF hasnt had a first cabin to AKL for 7 years??

The website says Platinum members have their bags tagged FIRST when travelling internationally - where on the website does it further advise that this only applies when the aircraft actually has a FIRST cabin?

Agree with the other posters.

1/ Policy is First tags for WP on International flights.

2/ I have always had First tags regardless of whether F cabin exists.

(1/ is obviously a moot point if there is no F flying to that destination, but it does matter when you land somewhere like LAX).

Hate to compare but I was travelling in the US earlier this month....flew 6 sectors and it was amazing, my priority tagged bags (thanks for AA agents being nice) was first out without fail.

Cant remember the last time QF got it right, dom or int.

Another priority benefit that AA delivers on, in stark contrast to QF.

I've scored F tags SIN-PER. However, I've also not scored F tags PER-SIN. When I enquired the agent said they don't have F tags in PER because they're are no F flights ex-PER. Pity the poor F passengers travelling onto London with QF.

It says (my bolding):

Your bags are tagged Business on domestic flights and First on international flights on Qantas operated jet flights with a QF flight number on your ticket when a Business cabin (domestic) or a First cabin (international) is offered.

Which says to me that it is tagged first when there is a first cabin.

(which is not to say you won't get a First tag when there is not a first cabin)

That is new wording.

The cabin reference has only just been included then.

I may be drawing a long bow but . . . decreased F routes, means fewer F tags, means further diminution of WP benefits.

Well it only really matters in ports where an F service arrives (ie. F bags are given priority over all other bags).

LAX for example removes F bags from the carousel and the First Host guards them whilst you spend 2 hours waiting for immigration.

To me, this is a real benefit.

My trip to NZ had F tags but no F cabin.

On another note I don't believe it's solely QF's fault. Arriving in MEL on Monday morning with SQ I saw Y bags come out before J and F.

Who does MEL ground baggage handling ??

You did say MEL didn't you?

Hmmm IME MEL is the worst of Australian ports for baggage priority/promptness.

You were lucky,
I had one priority Business Class tagged bags flying from Sydney to melbourne last week.
I ummed and ahhed as to if I should have used a premium hand luggage tag as my bag was only just too heavy and I was flying regional and then interstate.

Upon Arrival in Melbourne I gave up after waiting 20 minutes, went and sorted out my hire car then returned to the carousel and waited and waited and waited .... only to finally see my bag come through more than 45 minutes after we had landed.

There was no First on that flight and I was assured that my bag would be one of the first off. 45 minutes later - and 3/4 of those waiting having left (namely those with regular tagged luggage). I was not happy Jan!

Note to self. Next time take the Premium hand luggage option and care less about being 9 kilos instead of 7 on hand luggage.

Qantas in MEL is done by Qantas.
SQ is done by Menzies
NZ is done by Qantas
EK is done by Toll Dnata

I've long given up relying on the priority baggage benefit being delivered. If the bags are out early, then great, if they are not, then I'm just philosophical about it (but harbouring a mild dose of grumpiness that QF promises yet something else it cannot deliver). Domestically I very rarely check bags, and I try not to for international as well, but in both caes, sometimes it is unavoidable. I probably should be a little more interested in seeing the benefit delivered.

I've said it a million times before - and last year I got caned by some on this forum for daring to criticise Australian baggage handlers, however, the fact remains that they are utterly useless wastes of space - especially at MEL.

Before they think about striking - they should think about working..... Novel idea!

Totally agree !!! Many a times waiting Ridiculously long hour before baggage would arrive at another carousel and yes YMML is the worst!

I think you've got a little confused here. Premium Hand Luggage is only available on Dash-8 flights, not jet operated services. On a jet service you will be gate checked and your bags available at the carousel.

Thankfully I usually never have to wait these types of baggage arrival times - 17 to 24 mins.
Goes to show when travelling in the US, hand luggage is your friend

As I've said before, I stop counting after the first 50 bags/boxes/prams etc go by, then shrug my shoulders:evil:
