Might be a quick option to get to Platinum status if so, however, if its a promotion, will the points count towards status recognition ? I need approx 28K by year end to get Platinum....

40000 is the new limit and they raised the price a few months ago.
Any points that you purchase will count towards status recognition. That being said, Gold / Platinum doesn't get you much benefit besides the extra points.

Be aware that those "bonus" points are being paid for in the rate, they have been around all year! Just do a rate inquiry using one of those links then change the rate type to best available to get an idea of what the cost is!
Exactly, which is why I continue to use my entertainment gold card rate instead
Which then becomes problematic sometimes for points earning (without an email trail back and forth to PC).

I used EC rate twice, and once posted ok and the other took a v long phone call to "resolve". So a 50% failure rate for me means no further use of EC rates for me.
