Does Hilton Gold offer double bonus points?
I was not aware about the Conrads in Qld leaving Hilton. No loss with Jupiters, that's for sure.
Can anyone tell me what the earnings points ratio is between Hilton an Sheraton? Do you earn more points per $ at Sheraton? And do you need the same points value as Hilton for a stay?
Difficult to determine I guess.

For a comparison of hotel loyalty point values and earn / burn rates you might want to check the Loyalty Traveller blog posts

What is the Value of Hotel Points? - Loyalty Traveler

Points Earning Comparisons for Marriott, Hilton, and IHG - Loyalty Traveler

These give a reasonable run down of what returns you might get for your loyalty.

The problem with blogs is their accuracy and timing, neither of the blogs you linked provide a current accurate assessment as both do not take into account changes made by the Hilton program from Jan 15 this year, and often comparisons forget the pointbreaks for IHG as well, given you can earn 5000 points with IHG for a single night and then redeem it for a free night, that a pretty good vlaue oversight.

Both these posts make reference to the Hilton devaluation as they were both written after the Oct 2009 announcement of the Jan 15 changes. You are right though that they miss pointing out the great value in the IHG PointBreaks nights.

I often book the 'Weekend Saver' rate on the ICH website. It is random as to whether or not it will post at all. Oddly, I can stay at the same hotel twice, one will post and the other will get called 'deeply discounted'.

Two recent stays on 'Weekend Saver', at the same hotel: The cheaper weekend posted okay, the more expensive weekend two weeks later got called deeply discounted. Lack of transparency is a significant issue with the program.

NB: It is being challenged.

Most operators in the hotel industry, not unlike airlines, use yielding to maximise revenue by balancing rates and occupancies. Among many strategies, they would use dynamic pricing for their products. Periods of low demand will see otherwise high rates priced lower. That could explain why the lower priced hotel room being not considered "deeply discounted".
