Hi
Just at SYD for the first tome in a few weeks and saw/used the new priority security queue for J and status pax.
How long has that been around? Do they have them at Mel/bne?
S

I used the SYD one the other day, and no one checked BPs or membership cards. If it's not controlled properly, it's just going to annoy rather than please.

Haven't seen them in MEL or BNE. I suspect it may happen in MEL as there's always a 'staff' queue and the layout of the security area is similar to SYD. Not sure about BNE though...

I am flying out Sunday, is the new line with the main queues or is it at the small security screening section?

Thanks,

ejb

I noticed this priority queue for the first time last Thursday night. (as per my blog entry). I'm fairly certain it wasn't there the prior Tuesday morning (8 June)

The line is with the main security lines on the left.

According to medhead's blog it is SG/WP and J pax.

I can't exactly remember as I was looking for gold but it might have also included chairmans lounge. This is an impression only as I can remember being surprised to see an overt reference to CL recently and can only think of this being the occassion. It might have also include QP members but as I said I stopped looking at gold. ;)

Given it's directly behind the premium checkin area, I think it's designed to funnel people from there to security. I guess this means anyone who checks in/bag drops in the J section, (QP and up) can use it.

This is the first step in 'next generation checkin' for members with status, private security. A rumour is circulating that perhaps you will even be able to access the QP / J Lounge directly from a new priority check-in/security area - note the 'papered' glass next to the escalators to the QP... watch this space... :D

I can't notice the papered glass any more because it is all boarded up and is signed as a construction area. A very good sign that something is going to happen.

When I came through there tonight there was no longer a priority sign up, so it was just a general free for all. But then it was also a bit later then I normal get there.

Nothing similar at BNE last night. Though the queue was less than normal.

I was a bit confused when I read about escalators to the QP, then the little light turned on above my head and I realised you're talking about T3 :)

I was going to say that I always use the sneaky ground floor security gate at T2 that never has a queue.

The J, WP, SG security lane was being policed tonight at SYD T3 as I come through. First time I've noticed this since it was set up. Well there have been staff standing their watching people walk through but tonight male CSR was checking BPs and Cards.

The premium queue was in place, and patrolled in MEL this evening. Lots of WP etc etc pax using it, so it was actually longer than the other queues

Lady on security asked my opinion of it. I was honest

Used the line last night in SYD T3 and it did have a 2 CSR's checking FF cards. It was a bit pointless though as once through the checking of the cards and placing of items through the dedicated priority xray machine, you have to try and merge with one of the non priority lines to get through the body detectors. Seemed quicker to use one of the other lines on the far left hand side which has one one machine per line.

I went through the priority line at SYD T3 on Monday morning (~11:30am). It wasn't being policed then - it was a free for all :)

I didn't notice a priority line at all, not that it mattered as security was a breeze on Tuesday morning.

I noticed that merging and had a quick look around to see where those people had come from, and I concluded they were also in the priority lane. But I could be wrong as I only had a quick look as it was my turn to walk through the metal detector.

You must have gone through before me as there was only 1 person checking when I got there.

First time i've noticed it in Melbourne this morning, the lady at the front of the queue was doing more general airport customer service than working out who was allowed where!

I think the concept is good, and if it leads to direct lounge entry then awesome!

But in all honesty security doesnt really take a long time to get through, at least compared to other locations around the world.
