Priority security queue at SYD Dom

First time i've noticed it in Melbourne this morning, the lady at the front of the queue was doing more general airport customer service than working out who was allowed where!

I think the concept is good, and if it leads to direct lounge entry then awesome!

But in all honesty security doesnt really take a long time to get through, at least compared to other locations around the world.

Agree. LHR T3 took me close to 20 minutes to get through.

I was a bit confused when I read about escalators to the QP, then the little light turned on above my head and I realised you're talking about T3 :)

I was going to say that I always use the sneaky ground floor security gate at T2 that never has a queue.

I don't suppose you care to share where that is, T2 can be a nightmare upstairs.:?:

So security in T3 was crazy today around 6:30pm - kind of.

The lines to the main security were back past the check-in counters and getting close to the doors. I didn't see a priority line. I had flashbacks from times in the USA.

I nearly joined the queue until I had a bright idea of checking the check point that's off to the side - 1 pax went through as I was approaching but other than that there was nobody else there (except for some very bored looking security personnel).

Strange. People mustn't realise that other check point is there.

A few flight delays as well this evening. I ran into a friend in the lounge who was booked on QF556 (SYD-BNE at 9:05pm) but moved to QF552 (8:05pm) at check in because he got there early. That all sounds nice and well, except that QF556 ended up departing 20 minutes earlier than 552 so he would have been better off staying on his original flight :)

Please ignore my flying inexperience with this post.

Where exactly is the priority security area in Melbourne (if any)? I was on QF804 on Monday, and had never seen the security lines forming past the quick bag drop on the left, and all the way to the Jetstar check in on the right. I'd say it was about 100 deep, if not more.

While I'm still about 85 points off PS, after a trip to USA in October I'll return a SG thanks to a status run in F on AA.

Priority security is a funny one - they seem only to have it running during morning / evening peak, and even then only sporadically enforce it. In any case, it is nominally on the right-most lane at MEL, and the right- or left-most lane at the main entrance in SYD. Given all of the above, rarely has it been much of a real benefit of status.

Ewing, I must have just missed that rush last night at SYD - the queues were mercifully short when I got in, though once again there was no enforcement of the priority queue, so no point of having it there really.

Mind you, they could do well to manage their boarding queues a little better, but that's another thing entirely...

To you perhaps.

I've been commuting weekly as late Mel/Syd and always flying in 'peak hours'. The priority queue has been policed every time I've flown in both airports. Has been a huge help!

I do understand as it gets quieter is probably not required. Do remember they are trialling and rolling out piecemeal the 'Next Gen' airports program so I'd expect further refinement...

As has already been unveiled and discussed QF will be introducing priority boarding as a part of the plan.

I agree I'm looking forward to this the most I think :)

The few times it's been up and running for me (when I'm on the 6:05am out of SYD) there has been someone standing there, but not once have they checked my BP. Maybe the gold tag hanging from my bag is enough.

Flew out of BNE 27th Ausgust about 3.30pm priority lane was supervised but was considerably slower than normal lane. Priority had all flight staff moving to head of line no objection to them.

The non priority had two walk thur security machines and the priority had one.

The supervisor told pax in ffront of me to go to normal lane and I to priority (approx 20 - 25 [with 10 walk in flight staff] pax b/4 me and about 30 - 35 infront of turned way pax) She was in and out and I counted at least another 15 pax b/4 we were thur.

I will take mental note of if one or two security machines are in use next time.

Return from SYD 3pm 30th no real queue in either

I used it at about 5pm last night and no one checked anything - I have a silver tag on my carry on and the boarding pass was in my pocket.

When munitalP and I went through in MEL they asked for proof of eligibility, it was early morning but wasn't overly busy.

I have only ever seen it once in MEL and that was about 6 weeks ago. Subsequent visits it has not been active.

I saw the queue inactive in BNE a few weeks ago for an earliest of early morning flights to SYD. Wondered what it was, then it twigged, but with the line backing up to the check-in counters I did wonder why it wasn’t working in a clearly rush hour period. Not that I could have used it.

Did the bag drop yesterday afternoon and it had just opened. I referred my non status travelling colleague to the regular line noting that there was a lady from QF checking eligibility.

My non status travelling colleague got through before me.

Used it on Monday at SYD around 1PM and there were only 3 people ahead of me.

Returnign on Wednesday from MEL, during their school holidays, the line was full of non status pax as there was no QF agent checking BPs or cards. Took 15 mins to get through security as I had to wait for families and prams.

Frankly, peak periods such as school holidays is when you want this service most.

When I went through I was only QP PS but was with munitalP who is WP, he just said "he's with me" and no issues going through, so you probably could have taken your colleague through.
