Problem booking Premium Economy ASA

What you're saying ozbeachbabe makes sense - although hardly a difficult problem for those well paid Qantas programmers to solve ;). I'll give the premium desk a ring in the morning and see if they can sort me out - cause of course one Y+ PNR from cbr straight through leads to more SC's (always important ;)) and less points used overall. I'll let you know if it is a success - i always like to be optimistic (possibly to the point of delusional!!).

Pity there is no way to "manipulate" the Qantas website to do the right thing.

I don't see why you would get less SC/ff points with 2 separate pnrs. It would still be cheaper to do a JASA or FlexiSaver CBR/SYD/CBR which would not earn less SC or points than being booked in "Y" if you were to combine it all on the one ticket CBR/xSYD/SIN vv & pay through the nose to the tune of $1,400.00 ish.

The only time you would miss out on SC or points would be if there was another double points promo which was destination specific eg the recent HKG offer as all qualifying flights (to get double SC/points) had to be on the same pnr.

What dates are you looking at going? Another option would be do a JASA or buy a FlexiSaver CBR/ADL/CBR & try & snag a JASA on QF81/QF82 ADL/SIN/ADL as it's cheaper than ex SYD/MEL/BNE but would mean travelling on the A330 not A380 in case you had your sights on that one.

You won't get a Y+ itinerary all the way through - there is no W/T/Z booking class CBR-SYD. At best you'll get a reduction in the points required, so that it's 8K CBR-SYD + 45K SYD-SIN. If you try to book a revenue PE seat SIN-BNE-SYD or SIN-MEL-SYD or similar, you'll always be told that your domestic flight will be in Y. I don't see your itinerary being any different.

The difference for Bluey is that because PE is not offered ADL/SYD he's been quoted heaps more $$$ where as your examples SIN/BNE/SYD or SIN/MEL/SYD would be the same points plus cash but just a lower class of travel on the BNE/SYD or MEL/SYD sectors.

The only reason I am going for a Z fare...not surprisingly

Don't want Y+ all the way through, as that of course isn't physically possible (ie no Y+ seats out of cbr). All I want is X cbr-syd then Z syd-sin, same as the Y+ classic award, and because there is classic seats on the day I want to fly I want it at the "same" price (45k + ~$340) as a Y+ classic award (ie the same way a JASA works when there is J classic seats on the flight). Does that make sense???

Makes perfect sense. I have this issue when searching for ASA ex BNE in Y+. My understanding is that you can book any classic award as an ASA if it's available. The online booking facility does not allow this if there is a non Y+ sector though. I suspect it is because most "sale" Y+ domestic sectors book into B class - not X. This is probably what is driving up your price. If you do it as multi city, it will price the 2 sectors individually and cost you 8000 points (min) more.

I would suggest that you ring the service centre on this one. Or did you already do that?

EDIT: Driving up the price because it then prices it as "T" class and "B" class.

MarcB What city pairs are you looking for ex BNE. Can you not choose a day when QF8 operates BNE/SYD because as that flight offers PE it should be able to offer you a through PE fare BNE/SYD/xx_?

Thanks for all the help guys – really appreciate it!

I rang the Premium desk this afternoon and the very nice and helpful person confirmed that it is indeed a bug in the booking system. Which unfortunately they can’t get around (according to the operator), which kind of sucks!! So for me its going to be a red e-deal cbr-syd then the Y+ ASA from there.

So after speaking with the operator, I’d encourage everyone not living in SYD, MEL, BNE etc to log a complaint with Qantas on their website so we can get this fixed. I think we often underestimate the power of the consumer complaint – especially when lodged in numbers!

Redroo – I know how much Qantas values its frequent flyers and I think we’d all look forward to you posting here very shortly to inform us that this bug has been fixed. After all we all use the QFF system in good faith and members of this forum are probably some of QF’s most loyal customers, thus I think it is reasonable of us to expect QF to act in good faith and fix bugs in their system that stop us using the system (in good faith) in a prompt manner.

For the rest of us, the best option is clearly to move to SYD or MEL ;)
