The new access road for drop off wont be finished for at least another two years - the current access loop is already painful in peak hours, why they cant install traffic lights instead of having pedestrian crossings is infuriating, there seems to be haphazard traffic controllers in places. Public transport access (not skybus) really should be improved in the short term to reduce car dependency for access

I thought I might walk to Wolli Creek from SYD Intl a few days ago, as I had plenty of time to waste.

Well, as I discovered, the route I had used many times pre-Covid had been closed off, and another route had been established, by bridge from T1.

Yep changed a couple of years ago as part of the Airport Gateway project which is substantially changing the roads around the airport.

From Wolli Creek you walk through the park to Marsh St, over the Giovanni Brunetti Bridge. Then loop back under the bridge and onto a newish blue painted shared path that takes you to the southern multi+storey carpark.

Did this on Tue. Tedious with luggage - didn’t help that we boarded T3 around 3pm, so had early departing workers and after school crowd (and it was crowded most of the way). But it did drop us off around the corner from home. All for $3.93 and $1.96 …. (v ~$35 minimum in Uber).

The meandering route takes ~1 hr (scheduled for ~50 mins) but we did get a nice view of Maroubra Beach along the way… The old 400 bus was a more direct route but didn’t stop near home. For us, otherwise is two trains (or 1 bus and two trains) which takes almost as long as the 350. Hence normally take the 15-20min Uber/Taxi ride.

The 350 runs about every 10 mins from T3 to Bondi Junction. Mid morning thru to before 2pm is probably the sweet spot.

The scars must have healed from this time last year because we took the 350 bus home last night. Flew into SYD T3 before 8pm and while waiting for bags noticed a bus parked, lights off. Checked the schedule and a 350 was due to depart in 10 mins.

Uber was quoting $40+.

We only had two relatively small bags that both could fit into the small storage area. Apart from some airport workers and one or two other PAX, bus was pretty empty and whisked along in darkness (no beach views). I think we got out at our stop in less 40 mins. Uber would have still been 20 to 30 mins.

Off peak bus fare $2.90 (half that with a Gold Opal)!

The thing that irks me with this route v the old 400 bus is that it does the right angles of triangle and not even a vaguely direct route. As shown here.

Still, quite convenient if staying at the CP Coogee…

Yes, I was going to try it tomorrow, but the weather forecast has put me off. I'll just stay in the lounge for a couple more hours. But one day soon I'll do it.

Think there's also some new paths from the Tempe direction closer to the main freeway interchange entrance, but don't think particularly useful for Tempe station.

I walked from Tempe in February to Rydges Sydney Airport when the night trains didn't stop at Wolli Creek
there's no real "new" path currently - and there was a pile of works going on at the sportsfield and then a long long detour because of the new bridge that at that time was yet to open - not sure pedestrian access is now available or not

fortunately got rescued by one of the road crew and driven to the front door of Rydges after a walk far longer than I imagined it would be

also, Sunday 5th May night was wet, wet, wet so I stayed on the train
very few Qantas PAX using the train compared with T2 (VA/JQ)

I regularly take the 350 to T3 if i have the time.
It's a 8min ride to Mascot station and then it becomes normal opal prices.

Those $20 taps add up.

Granted Didi currently regularly has great deals to the airport. I don't know how much they cost from the airport and now you get velocity points with it too.

Unfortunately, for me an extra bus plus two trains and then a 10 min walk home make that hack not worth while v the one 350 bus that drops off on the corner from home! I personally wouldn’t catch the bus to the airport (or large luggage) - I’ll take the price premium for Ride-share knowing I’ll get there on time.

SkyBus gone up again [Now $23.90 one way]

$18 one way of a return tix, only purchaseable on their app, maybe too on their website, but I have the app. If you do a single, its $22 one way. If you buy a return, it will be $36. I think that was the last trip, I had bought it few weeks ago, for this past 15 & 16, ie this month. Will check...

I did the 479 bus connecting to 59 tram to get to North Melbourne yesterday. $3.30, wayyy better than the ripoff skybus (where I'd have to arrange transport back north again anyway). My myki had expired, but can instantly add it to google wallet.

Always thought of that alternative but the 479 is a lot less regular than the 901, and everything going right it's still a longer journey to the CBD, albeit down Elizabeth St which might be more useful for some.

Still weird theyve never installed a Myki machine at the actual bus stops.

Sydney is my home airport.

Last Sunday, using an Opal card (credit card gives the same fare) we took:

Sydney Domestic'--->Mascot station by bus: $2.24
Mascot---->station on lower North Shore of Sydney (600m from home) by train: $1.47
Total: $4.11

If we took:
Sydney Domestic'---->station on lower North Shore of Sydney by train: $20.15

Saving: $16.04
OR $32.08 for two of us!!

We do this all the time except from Syd International when we often have alot of luggage...we NEVER take a taxi either Uber or Didi whichever is cheaper, most often the latter.

I'll have a trip of a few days' duration, in and out of OOL.

Looks like I can buy one on arrival at the WHSmith Gold Coast Airport.

If the WHSmith above is not a selected retailer, then the only way for a refund is to complete the form, post it and have the refund into a bank account. I won't be near any Queensland Rail ticket offices, I'm pretty sure.
