Another one who now goes 20 mins before departure, no matter what the boards say. Mainly because once I was enjoying my time in the lounge and no announcement for my flight - realised 15min out and walked out, only to hear my personal page. Got to the flight less than 15 seconds after the page, and they said that I'd been offloaded. Why make an announcement if you're already off?

Maybe it was an offloading page to say stay in the lounge and wait for the next one :P

Yes,

Lesson learned.... Arrive at gate 30min early:)

They should know you are in the lounge right? you would have checked in through the counter? or on the phone/other alternative?

They could and they should but they don't care enough to join the dots.
Yes.. I know and I was putting this to bed last week and just putting down to an aboration on virgins behalf as I still do fly with them and enjoy most things.
but coming home on Friday on the 6.15 pm (877) I thought I better do what they told me ( arrive 30 min before) which I did and they don't start boarding till 6.02???? My last trip I was their 15 min before and was refused .. Go figure ..
the funny part is people were still getting on the plane at 6.20pm 5 min after the scheduled departure. ..
My only problem I believe is that I got a miserable person looking after the flight and I paid the consequences.
And I think all people would expect is consistency .

Welcome to inconsistency.

Both airlines are guilty although there is one huge difference with Qantas ground crew. I always receive a phone call if I am late getting to the boarding gate. From memory that has never happened with Virgin when I was Platinum and now that I am Gold.
