Hi folks, I'm thinking of paying AU$70 per person for a bulkhead seat for my family - four of us so we'd have the whole middle row.

It's a long flight - Sydney to Dubai

Not asking for views on value - we all have our own views, though feel free to chime in. However, can anyone advise if the legroom is good compared to a normal seat? Looks a bit cramped still on the seat plan

And presumably the in flight entertainment is via our armrest?

Cheers, Steve

In my experience the bulkhead seats have significantly less leg room, but obviously much more knee room. Being tall, it's a mixed bag for me. My knees hate being pushed, so it helps, but I can't really stretch my legs at all except into the neighbours footwell.

Another problem is the narrower seats because the tv is in the arm, which is solid. That extra loss of an inch or so each side can really affect us 'wide loads' as my neice delicately puts it.

I'd also be surprised if these seats weren't held for people with infants because of the bassinet there.

I'm not sure about Emirates policy, but on some airlines they will even bump you out of these seats if needed for families with a bassinet. You should get your seat fee refunded if so, but it's worth noting the risk.

I've had bulkhead seats on both EY and SQ as we were travelling with an infant. In addition to the points made by the previous posters it's also worth noting that you will have a lot less storage space. There will most likely be a slim pocket which contains the inflight magazine and safety card but not the same as you have when there's a seat in front of you. We ended up having loads of stuff on the floor which then had to be tidied away as we came in to land.
