Today announced Q to have stronger pacific ties with AA HERE should put the cat amongst the unions.
 
What more of a tie could they need? Codeshare flights are already in place so it will be interesting to see what actual differences emerge.
 
The ACCC has proposed to authorise their Joint Business Agreement to coordinate their Pacific services.
 
AA Metal coming downunder? Do they have the right fleet type for that?

Well the press release did say it would enhance the appeal of QFF.
In the closer alliance with BA/IB you can now upgrade on BA/IB using your AA miles.Might be something like that in mind.

The article cites the fact that AA haven't flown here as a reason why this isnt anti competitive.

Interesting - more competition for upgrades then across the pond... I would think something more attractive to FFers would better earn rates on discounted fares...

I believe they have orders in for the 77W (same as VA), so yes - if they were to want to fly to Australia they have the right sort of fleet for it. Given that AU <-> US isn't the cash cow it once was, I can't imagine they'd want to.

Of course we Q flyers would like more seat availability and better planes, well guess we can all live in hope!.
 
AA-QF Joint Business Agreement gets tentative approval

Qantas Airways Limited & American Airlines Inc. - Authorisations - A91265 & A91266

The interesting part is that:
Under the proposed JBA, they would coordinate operations on services between Australia/New Zealand and the United States of America (the trans-Pacific routes), and on extensive Qantas and American Airlines services which support the trans-Pacific routes.

It seems to open the possibility of AA flying to Australia since the application talks of coordinating operations which is rather like the AA-BA-IB JBV. This will be a great boon for Australian based AAdvantage members, if it comes to fruition, who will be able to use SWUs on cheap fares (if the current rules are maintained).
 
QF drop Hawaii completely, only JQ. AA starts Hawaii Sydney flights as the full service airline?

Give me an AA 777 over JQ A330 on that route anyday!
 
I really don't expect AA to start flying to Australia any time soon.

QF makes money on its HNL services (as well as the JQ services) - can't see them dropping a route on which they make a nice profit!

But agree that an AA service to Australia ex HNL would be interesting ......
 
I really don't expect AA to start flying to SYD any time soon.

AA could actually fly to another Australian port, you know - not every flight to Australia has to be to SYD.

(Bear in mind Strategic's new service to HNL will be ex BNE).
 
In their submission to the ACCC, there was also reference to full access to all of AA's fares, so that when you book a QF codeshare at a heavily discounted Y fare, you can also pick up a fare in the same class on AA, rather than having the AA fare code 'bump' your QF SYD-LAX or SYD-DFW fare up a fare code or two. This would save you money as you can buy the whole trip at a discounted code (albeit with heavier restrictions).
 
Given AA's order of some 777-300ERs, it seems that the DFW-Australia flights might be expanded.
Also doesn't the 777-300ER have a greater range than the 747-400ER?
