I know this is not a FF question, but if someone can provide some views it will be much appreciated.

We are moving to London - hubby got a job there for a few years. We have 2 Maltese terrier dogs (8 and 7 years old). We will be taking them to London with us. I have made enquiries with a few pet carriers who will fly them to London (with Qantas flights via SIN). It will be 2 very long flights for them, certainly long enough for us! I have done all the pet passports for them with the rabbi vaccinations and blood tests etc, so they don't have to spend time in quarantine. A friend has recommended JetPets because she will be using JP for her cat from Sydney to the UK (she is returning there).

Question is whether anyone has used JP for transporting domestic pets internationally from Australia? Our dogs are our babies, so I am very worried and anxious about they will handle the long and tiring flights.

Thanks, ozbeachbaby, for your reply. The facebook of JP looks good and re-assuring that they have looked after the "cargoes" well. I have heard horror stories about pets not surviving the long flights so I am feeling very apprehensive about sending our dogs to London.

A side note: For the prices I have to pay for getting our dogs to London, I wished our dogs could sit next to me in the pax area instead of in the cargo area! It costs more for the dogs to fly one way than for me to fly return. I did read that in the US, small dogs can sit with pax. Also, I wished I could get FF points for my dogs :p

Just as well...hate to see them bitten by black-coated, long-bearded, hat-wearing men! :p

My late father's Shi Tzuh (sp?) survived MEL-LAX-SAT OK back about 16 years ago so you should be OK. A cautionary tale for some though, he had been set to send it via AKL - I have no idea whether he arranged it himself or did it via a specialist company, I suspect the former), but he got into something of a tizz when he found out almost at the last minute that if the dog went via AKL it would allegedly be destroyed (put down) there...something to do with quarantine, even though it was only in transit.

I don't recall who told him this, and obviously we never got a chance to test the veracity of it as he hastily rearranged flights for the dog, but it was certainly a fright for him at the time. I'm quite sure your dogs will be fine given it's a specialist company arranging the travel. :)

Gotta say though, the concept of dogs in the cabin (I know it's common in the US) sits a little uneasily with me.

Thanks, tuapekastar. Sorry, I meant rabi - hubby would have a hysterical laugh as well over my spelling

I understand, not everyone likes to have dogs sitting in the cabin. Pet owners can go over board with their dogs!

We used Jetpets Mel-BNE and they were fantastic - I would recommend them. Not cheap, but worth it.

Just to update - OK, I have booked my one-way flight to LHR in mid-January (using QFF points because the one-way fare is almost the same as the return fare - difference is the tax), and booked our 2 dogs with Jetpets to fly out on the same day and same flight. Fingers crossed that our "babies" will be looked after well by Jetpets. Hubby will rent a car (as we have not bought one yet for London) to pick me and dogs up on the arrival day.

I was in London 2 weeks ago helping hubby to move into the rental house, and an hour out of London I was at the back of the plane waiting for the toilets near the steps going up to PE class section, I heard what sounded like a dog barking downstairs in the hull. So, I asked one of the flight attendants if there were dogs on the flight. He said yes there were two downstairs! Hope my babies won't bark too much.
