Qantas 747s to fly Perth-Sydney

IME transcontinental flights operate very close to capacity in Y. Would anyone care to offer any anecdotal evidence regarding loadings on the 744 flights? Thanks!

Yes, definitely. The itinerary I did generated 360 SCs, but if I went via MEL or ADL it would have been 400 SCs.

My threshold no of SCs to make the JASA worthwhile (for my purposes) was 360 SCs, so when I found I could get on the 744, it was a done deal.

Having said that, there was an option for an A333 coming back via MEL, but I just really love the 744. Given the way the type is aging and pregressively being removed from fleets, I take the opportunity to fly it when I can.

Flight I returned from Sydney to Perth last Wednesday was over 90% full in Y

About 85-90% on Thursday just gone...

Sorry to rehash an old thread but I'm seeking some information...

Qantas, in their press release, indicated INTL confic A330s three days per week from MEL and four days per week from SYD - can anyone confirm which flight numbers these operate and if the operations on these days/flight numbers are rarely subbed? I've got a few trips 'east' coming up for weddings and will be planning to use JASA, if available, but will only want to do this on INTL 330 config flights. (The 744 service from SYD doesn't suit my timings. Also, I realise nothing is set in stone, but if there is a strong precendent of flights being operated by intl 330 I'll be prepared to take the risk of booking it).

Also is there any way to tell on the website prior to booking? (when opening the seat maps it only shows the different options of configs - not the specific config for that flight number)

Thanks in advance :)

I'm on an iPad at the moment and don't have access to my file of handy threads. However, your question comes up semi-regularly and there are a few threads that reference it. Try a search for terms like 'sky bed', 'config' and maybe 'A330' and you should have some luck. The little information I can remember is the best way to tell if there are sky beds in J on A332s is to look at the Y seat map. Don't quote me but I believe sky beds flight have the centre four seats missing in Y for only the first row whereas other A330s have (mainly) the four centre seats missing in the first two rows. Also, check www.seat guru.com.

Can't speak for A332s but A333s (which are all international config with Skybed Mk 1) usually operate QF773/QF772 from MEL-PER-MEL respectively, on a daily basis (AFAIK). JASAed on them recently. :)

Fantastic thank you! Also thank you 'Danger'. I'll take a look at those tips/links. I've searched a couple of times but being a technophobe I don't seem to get much luck with that...

Thanks for the heads-up on 773/772 - will be very, very useful

Paddy

I don't believe 772/773 is daily. From memory, it went on to do the 67 to HKG (well it used to).

It's not. It operates Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun. The 3 weekday flights are a 333 and the Sunday flight is a 737.
