Qantas 787 reviews J - Y+ and Y

Did anyone in Y sit on the window side, and does the armrest on the window side lift up like it does on the (Air)NZ 787s in Y?
Ta.
Seeing I already have QF QP which gives me access to the PER QFi J lounge and premY has no ground views as its over the wing, looks like its Y with a comfort seat request for me.
$21xx for a purely Australian domestic J class is a bit cheeky of QF to charge. Even for a 787.

Can't see if this has been asked anywhere, but does anyone know if the pair of seats on the window in the last row of Y is any good? Expert Flyer says limited recline. The pairs up the back are a good option on the 747. I'm wondering if a little less recline would be worth it when traveling as a pair?

Flew PER to MEL yesterday on the 789. Booked Y but as a WP I could select the Y+ cabin. I'm normally an aisle person, but wanted to play with the new window so went for a window seat. Turns out this must have been a crew familiarisation flight as they did the Y+ service. Pre-departure water followed by Y+ food and wine. Went with the snapper which was pretty average.

My thoughts. Seat is fairly comfy and I like the foot rest/net thing. Love the fact the window can be dimmed to varying degrees of darkness. IFE screen is sharp and responsive. Toilets seem slight bigger, even in Y. I really like the little storage space under the screen. Useful for phones, spectacles etc.

The negatives. There is no way you could use a laptop in Y+ if the person in front of you reclines. A major failing IMHO. The bulky thing (air bag?) on the seat belt is the largest I've seen and the first one I've found annoying. You can't have table out and towards you as it gets in the way and I'm relatively thin. Getting out of the aisle seat is a little tricky still with the seats in front fully forward. If they were reclined it would be impossible. Front row of Y might have a little more bulkhead space than row 23 on the A330, but I wouldn't select it for an overnight flight and I'm 5'10. They advertise the USB port in the arm rest as high powered. I'm sure it is, but doesn't support fast charging which seems short sighted.

SBTE = still better than econony :p
I'm not sure I agree. I would not want to spend entire flight reclined in a premium economy seat in a very uncomfortable position.

Give me 43H or 43C on a 747 any day.

Flew on QF776 PER-MEL yesterday

Managed to score a pair of Y+ seats, ended up getting the full Y+ service to go along with it and access to business class toilets etc as what would occur internationally. Meal was the best I’ve had on Qantas in a long time.

Pretty impressed with the overall product, in saying that person in front of me didn’t recline but the seat was comfortable enough, but WTF is with the biggest airbag ever out into a seatbelt......pretty annoying at dinner time as the tray sort of ended up resting on it and wedges between it.

Only thing that was a let down was the IFE was a complete failure and magazines were available prior to boarding and that was all that was provided but that’s where the personal device ledge was worth its weight in gold.

In what way was the IFE a "complete failure"?

Was it u/s or was it just not to your selection preferences?

I would say US given that they were providing or offering magazines.

I read somewhere yesterday that Quokka was completely without IFE.

Yup, was on QF776 yesterday and Y+ as well and the IFE was out of service for all.

Seats were good, was in the bulk head - which needs a footrest or cushion to rest your feet, shouldn't have to use the wall. Didn't recline the seat, knew what would happen to the passenger behind (which really shouldn't have to be a consideration). Short flight anyway so not an issue.

Good service from the crew.

I was on 779 MEL - PER yesterday and also had no IFE.

That design isnt really new though. CX & KA have had that type for years.

In PE you can't really use the table as the air bag gets in the way. Essentially I needed to have the belt unbuckled with the table out. Never had this issue on other airlines/aircraft.

Not sure if already mentioned...another positive of the aircraft is you can flush the toilet by just waiving your hand in front of the sensor.

I would rather have more space in Y and face the 'extreme hardship' of having to press a button to flush the toilet...
