Qantas A380 headphones

My kids and I all have wireless headphones that we use with our ipads, what will I need for them to work with the seatback entertainment?
We are on an A380 SYD-LAX in economy.

If you want to use your bluetooth headphone, in addition to the adapter, you would need to buy something like the airfly pro (best marketed one), or an equivalent / cheaper brand.

The planes QF is ordering for Project Sunrise will have bluetooth built into the IFE for some cabins, but the QF A380 doesn't have that, so as ChrisMars mentioned if you want to use wireless headphones wirelessly you will need a device for that.

If you get something like the AirFly Pro (or similar device) it's a good idea to charge it up and pair it with your wireless headphones before you go. You can say plug it into your laptop or an old iPhone/iPad with a headphone port to test that it works.

Just in case I'd suggest storing the PDF Manual/User Guide For the AirFly Pro (or similar device) and the manual for your wireless headphones offline on your phone/tablet so you can refer to it if needed.

You need 4 devices and 4 adapters.

Some wireless headphones can also be used wired.

Over time Bluetooth built into IFE will become more common, but sadly further refurbishment of the QF A380 with newer seats again would be highly unlikely considering they have just been refurbished and the expected A380 retirement date.

Yes I have wired connection for the bluetooth headphones.
We have 4 headphones and I got a 4 pack of adaptors from Amazon so we're all set.

Not sure about a380 headphones, but the Y headphones on a 737 has an adapter that can be utilised for personal headphones - ie not hard wired.

Annoyingly the J ones don't. Forgot my adaptor last week and specifically checked knowing the Y ones had that handy adaptor. In hindsight I should have just asked for some Y headphones. Might do that for the flight home.

My adaptor lives in the same case as my Bose QC (corded) NC headphones to try and prevent that happening!

I have one in the case with my wireless Bose headphones (can be used wired if I need to) and another in my AirFly Pro Deluxe case.

These days though I usually only take over the ear headphones for long haul and use AirPods for short flights.

I actually use my Bose in ear headphones for both the IFE and my iPad/iPhone on long haul. I personally find them more comfortable but, yep don’t bother on short haul, just use AirPod Pros (if anything).

I’ve never felt compelled to purchase over ear headphones - don’t really want that extra bulk when travelling.

1. Comsol product mentioned above is for wired product, so it will only work for those wireless headphones with wired option….. but don’t forget your cables (some are 2.5mm male to 3.5mm male, so not so easy to replace if you are travelling, as this is not the commonly stocked version in large supermarket or Kmart-like variety stores)
2. The 2-Jack version adaptor actual comes with the complimentary headphones they hand out for use….. and not so hard to separate from their headphones kit, in case your flight is too close to wait for delivery from Amazon
3. Amazon and dicksmith have BT transmitter as low as $12, just make sure you bring along the usb cable (usually microUsb) that comes with it or get a longer one to connect to the usb terminal on the plane as the battery on these unit may not last long.
4. Always try out and pair your wireless headphones with the transmitter at home, there will be so many wireless and Bluetooth devices at the airport and airplane that you may struggle to pair with e right devices

Whilst not helpful for A380, the 787 has bluetooth now rolled out now in Y and W.
