Qantas A380 or 787

The new J suite is so good you don't need an upgrade.
On the A380 the J product is pretty good imo. I would think F on the A380 would be better than J on the 787, but by how much is the question. If QANTAS wishes to persist with the F product on the A380 they will need to raise the bar in some way especially if refurbishment of the A380s means direct aisle access for all travelling J.

Go with newer and exciting :)

Don't get too excited otherwise you may end up being a little underwhelmed by the 787. Whilst it does have some nice new features (well not so new now it has been flying for a number of years), it is still at the end of the day another plane and one that is maybe a little smaller than what you may otherwise expect.

Me personally even with Skybed MKII the overall space of the QF A380 would be enough to sway me that way, and the fact I've been on enough 787's to not get that excited. Though am going on an SQ A350 tomorrow, which I am looking forward to. Will be my 5th trip on the A350, but first in economy (travelling with family).

Funny when I flew in the last millennium from Sydney to LAX the seat was a sit up seat with an 18 channel loop IFE system (12 in Y if I recall). Wasn't until well into the 2000's that saw the first widespread use of beds for J and even then they were sloping seats not true lie flat. But I digress.

Is anyone as bothered by the 787 window (no pull down shades) as I am?

Is anyone as bothered by the 787 window (no pull down shades) as I am?
One of the main issues I had with them was the tint system didn't fully darken the windows and light still came through. That has been fixed, but the first 40 or so aircraft delivered have windows that don't fully darken, unless the windows have been replaced.

The main issue I have with them now is that the windows can be centrally controlled by the cabin crew.

Sorry had to google ETOPS

ETOPS stands for Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards, a rule which permits twin engine aircraft to fly routes which, at some point, are more than 60 minutes flying time away from the nearest airport suitable for emergency landing

If the window tinting in the 789 is 'fixed', I would hate to see what it is like in the early 788 aircraft.

When the sun is out, you can clearly see out the windows (at the ground etc) even when they are set to maximum darkness. Inside the cabin, it is far brighter than any other aircraft with the window shades closed and the overall experience is similar to a full moon at night.

If you need a dark cabin to sleep, the 788/789 is certainly not the aircraft for you (unless you are travelling at night of course).

As a 'shades up' person, I actually do not mind how poorly the window tinting performs as I can look out at anytime without disturbing other pax.
